  1. Holston got the cheathowie treatment. You never play cheathowie close at their lil hole. Been that way for years n years. You either blow them out or it's close and you lose🤷

When refs run off the field immediately after the last play something just doesn't seem right.

At least Marion gets to play one more game before Gate City blows us out again

    On NFHS

I watched Giles vs H. Valley.  Giles looked pretty good.  Not great or state title good, but pretty good.  What we are seeing with the wing is a cool adjustment.  Basically, a lot easier to get the ball in open space or to the outside (faster developing) than years past, and a few other adjustments.

I watched Marion vs Honaker.  I thought BOTH teams looked good.  Honaker is going to be good.  Honaker gave up some missed assignment type plays and a flukey interception.  It's early and to be expected.  Honaker will clean that up and they are going to be a real problem in 1D.  Marion might play with Richlands, Tazewell, VH, and Lebanon and no suprise if they win 2 of the 4.  I haven't seen the other 4 yet, but this Marion team is much better than years passed just based on talent, size, play makers on the field.  No offense, but most Marion teams since Carroll left have just not looked good and they haven't been good.  This team looks much better this year.  The D1 kid for them is a damn monster.

Byrd vs Glenvar. How was Byrd 3-8 last year?  Did they transplant a new team or get 15 transfers?  Alarmingly impressive.  Huge, Lightening Quick, QB amazing, linebackers explosive.  They physically whipped Glenvar and they were also a whole lot faster.  That William Byrd team is good.  I think Glenvar is also going to be very good.   They looked about like last year in early scrimmages, but Byrd looked like the old William Byrd, but my God, with more speed.

No way to tell records who finishes what based on what is basically a glorified practice from the 3 contests above.  I'm basically just looking at talent when I watch a scrimmage and try to compare how a team looks in talent compared to itself the year before, and comparing it more to itself the year before than I am the scrimmage opponent on the same field.  Just my opinions above, and again, only a glorified practice.

Did they do the onside kick Everytime

And go on 4th down everytime. That coach didn't fool anybody

Exactly Grundy who? Be careful what you wish for that’s what was said about Galax last year. I mean who's Holston  signature win against ?

grundy was not a great team at all. They struggled heavily against a very weak narrows team , was in a battle against Rural retreat who was hammered by GW. And Galax just hung 40 on them twice this season.

Why do you think they can hang with Galax? Not being a jerk serious question

They have a complete team. Very all around not 1 stand out player but 6 or 7 can hurt you. They are similar to the 09 team. But it's PH they play first so if they win then we can talk The semi game

  4. I dont post much anymore but 42-8 for a team you all said was soft..🤣🤣🤣

Now if you would have said Marion I'd believe you. They might not beat Riverheads but if they play Galax it will be a very good game. Thanks for all the years of football banter Gman. Is Lance still on here?

I think he's referring to the town/county itself rather than the football program. Smyth County saw it's manufacturing base slowly crumble from the closing of Olin in Saltville in the mid-70s, through the introduction of NAFTA in the 90s. The powers that be did little to nothing to stop it, and as a result, Washington and Wythe Counties picked up the pieces. While Marion is certainly a nicer place to be than when it hit rock bottom 20 years ago, having a more exciting night life hasn't given people a reason to stay when there's very little opportunity for unskilled laborers, and it's reflected in Marion and Northwood's enrollments that are less than half of what it once was.

I know that most of SWVA can relate to that, but it's incredibly frustrating looking at how much better your neighbors handled things when their backs were to the wall.

    That's putting it nicely😁..

I grew up on Brush Creek, about halfway between Fries and Fort Chiswell along Route 94. Although I lived in Grayson County, most of the neighboring kids would be divided equally between Fort Chiswell and Carroll County High Schools when Fries shuttered in 1988.

Having grown up with many people from the Fort Chiswell area, I can safely say, it’s a very insular community. You’re either one of them, or you’re not!

That can be very hard to overcome as an outsider trying to coach the local kids. Some have found a way to become part of the community like Stephen James. But most never do.

That’s my perspective having grown up on the fringes of that community.

Try staying a Marion fan. All the bs in that lil town now along with ppl leaving. It's a shell of itself.. I moved on down the road and Washington co VA and Bristol is like another completely different part of the state. Marion just won't adapt and it's showing

  7. Well, the NC job didn't last long. Makes ya wonder if Joey got out while the getting was good at Marion. We won't field a decent team for awhile . No kids and the staff just aren't experienced enough. Plywood knows the Crazy nights we use to have on Fridays. Even before the China virus hit things were going down at Marion
