Gate City will no doubt be at least as good as last year. However, after seeing them play this summer several times, I think they will be significantly better than last year if they continue to grow together

I have played with those 3 cousins. One might be 6' 4" or 6' 5", the other 2 are barely 6' 3". But overall Gate City should have a pretty good team this year with a good shot at returning to Richmond

That probably came across wrong. All credit to the Beavers, but GC did not block at all. You all are definitely a good team with a good D but Gate City did not fire off the ball hardly at all tonight. It was strange but as I have said Congrats!

Bottom line is Gate City couldn't block all night long. It wasn't anything to do with the Beaver D-line but we just weren't getting a hat on a hat. Also, after moving the ball pretty well the first couple of drives GC's play calling changed. GC went away from what was working and went to off-tackle runs all night with nothing to change it up. Bad play calling. Strange thing is that Bluefield only ran about 4 plays on offense all night and GC never adjusted defensively to those plays. Credit Bluefield that they stuck with what was working but GC never made a single adjustment to correct the problem. With one simple adjustment Bluefield's offense could have been slowed some. However, Congrats Bluefield and Good Luck the rest of the way! Gate City will be just fine, this will be a good growing experience and GC will only come out of it as an improved team in the future.

Wrong, bluefield had patterson for the entire game agaimst GC last year because he had a couple of penaties called on him in the second half

I also believe the 2003 Gate City State Championship team could have played with these teams. GC went undefeated and only had one or two games that was won by fewer than 10 points and the state championship game was a blowout! Gate City had 1 from this team play at Virginia Tech, 5 play at Carson-Newman, 3 at Emory and Henry, and a few at UVA-Wise. Not saying that they would have beat you all or Maryville but they definitely would have been right with them and the games could have probably went either way if they were played. They would have been some great games if they could have been played. Don't underestimate some of the great teams that have come out of Southwest Virginia over the years!

Gate City actually had 2 turnovers. But it was a great and hard hitting game. Excellent job Devils!

Actually, only 2 of the 8 that quit had any significant playing time at all last year. and they were NOT major contributors even though they played. Im not sure exactly where you heard that 6 starters from last year quit but that is incorrect. Also, the biggest injury GC has at the moment is with one of their running backs. However, he will play against Richlands but he just will not be playing both ways

Congrats to the Gate City Lady Devils Tennis Team on their 6th state championship in the last 8 seasons!!!
