  1. Like I told you all....Battle is very out manned this year. Will be in a lot of games because they're a very young that doesn't have much experience. But Steve Wright will have them playing their butts off for 4 quarters no matter the score. They'll show up on Friday, ready to fight reguardless of who they're playing.
  2. Lee was a bad hire from the get go. Anyone who knows SWVA football knew that. There is no excuse for quitting on a group of kids that have put their trust in you I hate it for the kids b/c they had bought into him but they'll have better leadership the rest of the way. Those kids have been running the wing T for the last 3 years. I don't think it'll take to long to put a small version of it back in. Wright has still been teaching the strength and conditioning program at Battle. I've heard the off season program wasn't remotely as challenging as the past few years but I'm sure Wright has at least made up for some of it in class. This team was in a rebuilding mode reguardless but I guarantee that Wright will have them competing their butts off for 4 quarters reguardless of the scoreboard. Hate this for the kids but they're in better hands now. I just hope that the administration makes a better hire the next time around.
  3. The Burton Jamboree will have some good football teams. Burton, Clintwood, Union, George Wythe, Tazewell and Castlewood will be there. Not sure on the date
  4. First year at Wise and we had a few issues. We had a big problem with jerseys. They arrived very late and the numbers were mixed up and duplicated. The other issue just depth. We had a number of no shows that left one team with only 5 lineman. By half-time they were playing with a TE at Tackle and a FB at guard. Those 2 kids never complained about having to move positions though. We had a great group of kids. Stayed at UVA-Wise all week and didn't have 1 single problem. We're expanding our area all the way up to Giles next year and that will be our recruiting area from now on. If any of you came, hope you had a great time.
  5. Thanks for the info. I sent the Mabry kid a message but it's not been returned yet. I'll check on Rodgers also. Glad to hear that Lundy is playing at the next level. That's what the main goal is, to get as many of our local athletes an opportunity to move on as possible.
  6. In fact, he already has a year or 2 under his belt in Virginia so it wouldn't have even been 5 years.
  7. I'm in Kingsport... It had started. Graham can retire in Tennessee, draw that check and make money in Virginia. In 5 years, he can retire from VA and draw 2 retirement checks. It was very much a possibility but I think going from driving a corvette to driving a mini-van was just to much of a change on the football field...... with the potential retirement payoff.
  8. We're filling our rosters for the SWVA Touchdown Club All-Star game and have a lot of kids but we still need a few QB's. Can you guys suggest some quality SR QB's from this past year in SWVA? Shannon Adams from Twin Valley is playing but we've tried Abingdon, Eastside, VHS and Clintwood and for one reason or another it's not worked out. (injuries, vacation, summer baseball) I'm waiting on a response from Marion's Trey Crook and will contact Connor Lundy from Carroll County on Monday. Any others that I'm missing
  9. I'm just telling you what was going around down here and also coming from ppl up at Abingdon. I'm not sure where/why it fell apart. Either way, Good luck
  10. Will be played on Friday June 27th at UVA-Wise. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Coaches will include Jimbo Adams, Greg Mance, Steve Wright, James Colley, Todd Tiller, Darrel Taylor, Mark Sloan, Colby Amos, Andy Bowers, Hammer Browning and myself It's not to late to get players involved. If you can suggest any players for me to contact, please do. The 2 main area's that we need to fill are QB's and lineman. QB wasn't initially an issue several will be on vacation and a couple have injuries. Keep in mind that this is SR's from this past season. When I came on, my goal was to turn this game into the best in the state. IMO the VHSL keeps putting more and more distance between itself and SWVA. My goal is to reward our kids with a great experience and give them every opportunity to play in front of college scouts. In this years game, we'll feature kids from the very tip of SWVA all the way up to Radford. I hope all of you come out and support these kids and take in some early football! We all know that football season cant get here soon enough.
  11. Graham can retire in Tennessee and work in Virginia. He'll draw two pay checks. This obviously isn't a football decision but it's what's best for him an his family. Abingdon High School is just going to benefit from it.
  12. They've been waiting until the end of the year for Graham Clark to resign at DB/Retire in Tennessee. Abingdon is about to make a HUGE hire. With that said...if Graham cant win there, drop the program because it's a lost cause.
  13. I've said on here in the past that I'm in Kingsport now. From everything I'm hearing, Abingdon is about to make one heck of a hire! All things down here point to Graham Clark retiring in Tennessee and taking over the Abingdon football program. Nothing is official but it's what I'm hearing. There will be no more excuses about coaching. If Clark isn't successful up there, no one will be. He is really good friends with Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech...I wouldn't be surprised if he brings the flexbone with him although going to the spread isn't out of the question either. School Board meeting is the 22nd I believe up in Washington County.
  14. The all-star game is sponsored by Consol Energy and will be held Saturday June 21st at UVA-Wise. Kickoff hasn't been set but it will be a night game. Athletes will stay in dorms and have 3 days of practice. We've expanded the recruiting area up to Radford this year and expect 30 - 35 kids on each team. We've just started the recruiting phase so if any of you have deserving players, please pm me their names and I'll check up with their coaches. This will be a great chance to get in some early football guys, hope everyone comes down to watch the ball game.
  15. The pistol formation that you're talking about is still the Wing T. The thing about opening up the offense next year is that all of the playmakers are gone on the outside. I expect Christian Estes to step up and have a good season though. Battle couldn't replace the lineman that was lost to graduation last year...and now they'll have to replace 3 year starter Sam Martin at Center along with a solid group of skill players in Harlow, Matney, Chapman, Stoots and Justice Blaylock. Looking at the schedule...3-7 would be what I'd expect with those wins coming against Holston, Patrick Henry and Wise Central. Hope I'm wrong and could very well be. I know that Wright will get the most out of those kids especially in the weight room this off season.
