Yehah, my data is a year old. Grimsley is a powerhouse program. The current QB is sophomore Brody Lowe.

I spent more than a decade as a band dad. Every issue I've ever seen has involved butthurt over the outcome on the field, not what's taking place in the stands. But what's taking place in the stands gets blamed and unfairly singled out. Grimsley is 50-1 with the nations #3 overall prospect Faizon Brandon as the starting QB. Brandon has committed to Tennessee. His lone loss was the state championship game his freshman season against Weddington. Weddington's starting QB that day was Tyler Budge, who is the current starting QB for Rhode Island.

Carroll beat Radford 49-34 last season. It was the first time Carroll had ever beaten their old New River District rival in football. I think it'll be a good football game. I look for Carroll to return to a "Benefit Game" arrangement with Galax and drop them from the regular season schedule. I also look for the series with Fort Chiswell to not be renewed either. Then replace those three games (Christiansburg game included) with any combination of Northside, William Byrd, Christiansburg, Bassett, Magna Vista and Abingdon for the next cycle and going forward. Carroll was sort-of stuck having to continue to play Galax and Fort Chiswell this cycle. Considering the dropoff of those two programs, and the rise of Carroll, it was an unfortunate situation for Carroll to find themselves in. I've said for years, Carroll is a sleeping giant. They have plenty of talent walking the halls. They needed someone that could figure out transportation and pull all the pieces together. It appears Seth Greer is the right person for that task. They may not compete for Class 3 state championships but I firmly believe they can equal what Lord Botetourt has been over the Harless years. Especially now that all those transfers Galax built its success with are headed to, or staying in Hillsville.

It’s my understanding, a football series with Pulaski is in the works for the next cycle. Carroll already plays Pulaski in everything else. They play Bassett and William Byrd every few cycles. I wouldn’t be surprised if those aren’t in the works as well. I’m not sure about Abingdon.

I think it’ll be similar to last year. First round win over Northside (27-21) followed by playing Magna Vista tough for a half before running out of gas. But who would have thought a few short years ago, we’d be saying that about Carroll?

Pretty good showing against and always tough Glenvar team. Carroll won 38-21. After the bye week this week, Carroll will host Floyd and Radford the next two weeks.

That 42-7 win in week two stands out. Personally, I think they have a legitimate head coach and program leader for the first time since they were in the SWD. They will still have to eventually play Class 3 competition so, we'll see. But they are without question, better than they have been for quite some time.

You'll have company on that hill! I still remember Mark Dixon screaming at kids to "drink some more Dr. Pepper. That's why you're a spectator." when kids would continually cramp up during games. What comes in a McDonald's wrapper shouldn't qualify as food! Since I had cancer a few years ago, I've all but eliminated food that isn't prepared by me and/or my wife. It's amazing how much better I feel and how much healthier my lab-work suggests I am.

Carroll County is Class 3.

But Galax is back to being old Galax. The 2010-2023 Maroon Tide are the outlier here. Galax is pre-Mark Dixon Galax again. Thus, back to being “old Galax” again.
