To give you an idea of how hard of schedule the top 5 on each side of 2A have played, here are the combined opponent records:

Appomattox 13-15

Dan River 10-17

Richlands 16-17

Grundy 12-22

Graham 17-11

Goochland  10-23

Stuarts Draft 5-23

Madison 11-14

Buffalo Gap 12-17

East Rock 20-6

East Rock is 3-2 and it's easy to see why when they've played that brutal schedule. Outside of that, only Graham has played a winning record schedule, with Richlands 1 under .500.

I think it's a better indicator if you take out the games played vs. the team that is being evaluated. For instance; Richlands is 6-0. When you look at the opponent's records take away the 6 losses to Richlands and you get 16-11 vs. non-Richlands opponents.

One of the interesting things I've done with Bluefield is go back and figure the all-time opponent record.

5627-4075-308   .578   including games vs. Bluefield

5303-3432-285   .604  excluding games vs. Bluefield

In Bluefield's championship years opponent's records:

1959  59-45-6   .564

1962  65-33-8   .651

1965  62-45-5   .576

1967  55-55-2   .500

1975  72-50-0   .590

1984  90-50-0   .643

1997  81-70-0   .536

2004  91-68-0   .572

2007  94-59-0   .614

2009  97-61-0   .614

And BTW, East Rockingham gets Riverheads on 3 days rest this week on the road.

Floyd is higher than Giles. Does Floyd have a really good team? They kinda came from off the radar.

They have wins over Carrol, Patrick Co. James river, and Grayson, and a big loss to martinsville. They've only played 1 decent team and got beat by them so I'm not sure

Did some WAY too early end of season projections and found some interesting possibilities.

If Richlands finishes 10-0 it is possible for them to outpoint an undefeated Appo or Dan River. More so Appo than Dan River. A 9-1 Union will finish no higher than #3 under almost any scenario. Very likely #4 or #5 with #5 being the most likely.

Here's the most intriguing find....if Dan River, Appo, Richlands, Union and Graham all finish at 9-1 then Graham will be the #1 seed and it won't be close. They could conceivably be ahead of the nearest team by 12 points.

I don't have much knowledge about the points system but that's surprising to me. Does graham get 2A points for playing the 1A schools that are in the MED?

Richlands will go unbeaten if they get by Abinddon.

Union should finish 9-1.

Graham to go 9-1 has to beat Galax - easier said than done.

Either Dan river or Appomattox has to finish 9-1. Say if Appomattox wins that game is there anyone else left on the schedule that I could beat them? Or vice Verza?

Appomattox plays

Dan River   excellent team

Altavista     good team

Nelson County   could be as bad as Rye Cove

Chatham    average

Amherst County  - Awesome team and should beat Appomattox-game is at Amherst-could be one of the top three games in the state this year.

Dan River plays

Appomattox - excellent team

William Campbell - much below average

Gretna - below average

Altavista - good team and a rival on the road

Appo can beat Dan River and then get beat by Amherst(undefeated thus far) at the end of the year. Graham would have to get by Galax and Abingdon would need to beat Richlands for this top 5, 9-1 finish to occur. At this point, I'm only worried about Letcher Central on Union's schedule.

And yes, Graham gets 2A points for beating all the 1A teams on their schedule. I was not expecting that at all. Assumed it would have been Richlands or Dan River as #1 if everyone was 9-1.

Of course, if Dan River beats Appo, they'll be 10-0.

Is Amherst 4A? Is it believed that they "should" beat Appomattox?

Amherst is 4A and they so far have beaten:

42-40 at Salem (4-1)

33-24 vs Liberty Christian (3-2)

49-07 at Rockbridge (0-6)

54-14 at EC Glass (4-1)

42-06 vs Liberty Bedford (1-5)

And they have one of the toughest schedules with games remaining with

Brookville (3-3)

Jefferson Forest (2-3)

Heritage Lynchburg (3-2)

Rustburg (5-1)

Appomattox (5-0)

Cheer for Appo. Appo ends the season at Amherst County, which is a great possibility of a loss for them. Dan River's stiffest test afterward is Altavista, which is a good team but not one that should beat Dan River. Appo also has Altavista.

So there is a good chance that DR & Appo ends up 9-1 each.

Graham needs to hope Richlands gets clipped by Abingdon and pray they can outplay Mark Dixon's bunch.

All of those things happening aren't very likely but for Graham to even have a chance at the #1 seed late in the season is a complete 180 from where they were just a couple years back.
