bucfan64 307 Report Share Posted December 19, 2017 he 2017 HOOPALACHIA HARDWOOD CLASSIC will take place this week at Twin Valley High School in Pilgrims Knob, Va. The tournament is sponsored by Sykes Enterprises. The tournament will feature varsity and junior varsity teams from throughout the region as they compete for bragging rights and the Curtis R. Shortridge Cup. The tournament will be spread out over six days and will consist of over 40 games. The junior varsity divisions include, Hurley, Twin Valley, Grundy, Northwood, Castlewood, Riverview W.Va. and Richlands. The Varsity divisions include Twin Valley, Grundy, Hurley, Northwood, Castlewood, Tazewell, Richlands, Riverview W.Va. and East Montgomery high schools. This is the inaugural event in what is hoped to become a long-standing tradition in regional basketball. The tournament trophy, the Curtis R. Shortridge Cup, honors former Garden High School and Twin Valley High School coach and athletic Director Curtis Shortridge. A dedicated professional and supporter of local athletes for several years, Shortridge and his contributions will be remembered prior to the championship games on Saturday, Dec. 23rd.
