I'M sure all the teams in the district that Bland County is a part of will find a 10th game, even if they schedule a team from out of state. but if they don't i guess they have to ask VHSL committee about playing just nine games. the last team i know locally that played only 9 games was Haysi, but not for sure what year tho.

Good teams are better off playing 9 games rather than taking a forfeit from Bland.

^This. If you are even a middle of the road team, you're better off finishing the season with nine games than to drop your points average by taking the 16 points for a victory over a 1A school with no bonus points attached. Depending on who your opponent is, a loss could be more valuable to your playoff seeding than a win over a 1A school with no bonus points.

You think a bunch of schools still need a game 2 weeks b4 the season starts???

^ THAT???

WHO could you lose to that would give you at least 16 points???

Not that there are a lot of local teams that would be that valuable, but an undefeated Bluefield, Graham, Ridgeview, Union, or Radford would be worth 16 points in a loss, and an undefeated Abingdon or Blacksburg would be worth 18. If Carroll County were to (God forbid) win six games, they would get you 16 points in a loss.

So those schools who may be unable to find a 10th game could be penalized in the playoffs due to no fault of their own?

Go back and read again. The answer is no the won't be harmed. The vast majority will actually be helped because beating Bland would lower most schools rating vs not playing them.

You might have missed a key detail in regards to the modern playoff points system. Your seeding isn't based on the total points you earn during the season, but instead the total points you earn in the season divided by the amount of games you play. The entire system was designed to prevent a situation like this from hurting the schools who don't have a full schedule.

The teams that will get hurt the most in regards to playoff points aren't the schools that scheduled to play Bland, but instead the schools that were scheduled to play the teams that would have played Bland but now only have nine games. Every game you play earns you bonus points for every game your opponent wins; 2 bonus points in a victory, 1 in a loss (for example, you play Abingdon and Abingdon finishes with 8 wins. If you beat Abingdon, you would get 16 bonus points, 2 points for every win Abingdon has. If you lose to Abingdon you get 8 bonus points, 1 point for every win Abingdon has.) Now, if we take Marion for example, they are scheduled to play George Wythe and Grayson County, both of whom were scheduled to play, and likely would have beaten, Bland. That means that there will be one fewer victory for Grayson County and GW, meaning fewer bonus point for Marion.

But it also increases the value of bonus points received from your other opponents. When you play 10 games each bonus point is worth 0.10. When you play 9 games they are worth 0.11. Just a fraction of a difference but enough to put you ahead of another school.

They could always go about it the way Bluefield did a few years back when they played Graham twice in the same season.

That was back in 2005, I just looked it up. What were the circumstances behind them playing twice?

Neither school could find a 10th game that year

Edit that, Bluefield only had 8 games scheduled, adding a 2nd game with Graham gave them 9 games.

Do you know how far it is from Auburn to Hurley?

From Buchanan to Hillsville ??

Lmao.

(1) It’s actually 15 minutes shorter, and not over terrible roads.

(2) It’s actually 45 minutes shorter, most of which is interstate and not curvy, broken down roads.

You kinda made his point there.  “LMAO”.

According to Google Maps...the shortest, fastest way...

GW-TV  3:17 164 miles

HHS-AHS  2:47  148 miles

JRHS-CCHS  1:40  98 miles

Bluefield High School to Wheeling Island Stadium  4:21 285 miles...went ahead and put this here since they go so often...plus you have to go through either Ohio or Pennsylvania to get there.
