The order will certainly change, and it's early, but it would appear on paper that the top-8 that are currently in will be the same top-8 in November.

The only one I could see shifting would be Battle and Marion. But the top 7 are safe.

It's possible because of the points system, but if Battle were to get the nod over Marion despite losing head-to-head, it would just go to show how broken the system is.

Not sure who will end up 7 & 8 but I'd say 1-6 stay just maybe not in that order. I preface that with I could be wrong. Anybody that was doubting Richlands would even make playoffs are way off base.

Do you mean if both finish with the same record?

Keep in mind, head to head games mean absolutely nothing in the point system unless both teams finished with the exact same rating. Points are based on wins and losses and opponents' wins and losses. Basically, a strength of schedule.

If Battle finished 9-1 with their only loss to a 1-9 Marion, we wouldn't say that Marion deserved to get in over Battle.

Well, obviously, only if they have comparable records. I led in my original post with "on paper," making the assumption that none of the teams ranked below 7 were going to set the world on fire. The point I was trying to make is that a flawed system puts us in a situation where strength of schedule is the primary system for seeding as opposed to the on-field product. Not that I have any suggestions for a better system, but it's unfortunate that this is probably the best we can get.

But then again, it's all hypothetical in week 4, and when Marion loses to VA High and we have Battle, Marion, and VA all on the bubble with wins over each other, then we can have a discussion about the "broken playoff system." 😅

If the MRI is not good for Battles tailback then I dont see Battle winning any more games.

Battle's scoring output per game has not changed much no matter the personnel this season. The offensive production has been disappointing. The defense has been adequate.

We cant seem to block, against Marion we were in close field goal range an 3 came up middle to block it which is 1 reason for the backs not to gain any yards. Then when you run a play for 6 yards I always thought you ran the same play a couple of times until they stop not go off to a slow roll out pass play that everybody know is coming. But without a run game I just dont see a win coming.

Wouldn’t the on field product be altered by the strength of schedule?  Real question. Not stirring the pot.

Quite possibly, but again, I think we're over thinking it. If two teams have comparable records and one has a head-to-head victory over the other, I think that we can all agree that the team with the head-to-head win should receive the nod, but under our current system, that isn't necessarily the case. Again, I don't know of a way to improve upon the system that we have, just pointing out what may be a necessary evil that is involved in our point system.

We could just take the top two from each district and by done with it. Of course, that leads to teams playing weak schedules I suppose. It just seems too many teams get into regions that shouldn't.

Every region is different and will have there own issues but for our region I always liked the idea of 6 teams in with the top 2 getting a bye for the opening round

I’m not opposed to going back the way it was, the top four in each region make it. But the VH$L is too worried about money.

Wasn’t Glenvar supposedly a dark horse state title contender to some?

Tough schedule so far..galax riverheads and hidden valley which is pretty good this year is a Tough srart

Yes they were. I know that they've had a tough schedule, but a legitimate 2A contender should not lose to a 1A contender. As good as Riverheads was in 16-18, with state titles, they still lost to 2A semifinalists.

Well it happens and I believe they may have one of their good players injured as well....not positive about that though

They may not win anything but I bet they will be a tough out come playoff time

Injuries are a different story as they change the total dynamic of a 1/2A team. All things being equal, it shouldn't happen.
