Crossover in Playoffs

Why was this abandoned? I was a big proponent of this as it allowed schools from various regions to play each other. More importantly, sportsmanship, peace and harmony along with relationship building was enabled through this process. Any hope of bringing it back?

Costed too much money for the schools.

Can a price be put on building relationships and promoting sportsmanship? This also allows the student athlete to experience different parts of our great state.

I think another part of it is, alot kids parents don't have the means to pay for gas to drive across the state then spend hundreds dollars on a hotel then food. Not to mention alot would have to take off work to accomplish it.

I agree it nice to visit other stadiums and communities but just not feasible.

Sounds like if money is an issue then the school system should supplement the travel. Maybe through each community’s personal property tax or increasing sales tax?

A price can’t be put on building relationships. This would also help let the less fortunate experience what others experience.

Schools already don't enough money to fund basic teacher needs etc.  My company donates money to local schools and we take requests from teachers for needs they have.  It is shameful that teachers have simple needs that may be $100-$200 but the school is unable to fulfill them.  I'm glad we are able to do something about it but bottom line is school systems are grossly underfunded.

Taxes need to be raised plain and simple. It’s past time we pay teachers appropriately and redistribute wealth by providing more opportunities for our students!

People in the area, although doing better than a few years ago, are struggling enough to make ends meet and survive.  Raising taxes could possibly benefit the schools but nobody will support it for the simple fact of taking away even more money and forcing some to hold two or even three jobs.  There is no great solution to it.  Unfortunately the lacking leads to kids going to private school or home school  which further elevates the issues.  Until we can get a population boom back in the area it is going to continue.  I agree with paying teachers but redistribution of wealth (socialism) is definitely not the answer.

Sounds like yes a price can be put on it.  Not everyone can take off work and spend money to travel

Luckily if we would play a distant team we get off at 3:30 on Friday so not an issue.  However if had to work til 5 it would be near impossible to get to some locations let alone go home and pickup my boy and get to the game.

If the state or local government could supplement the travel through increasing taxes everything would be solved. Nothing was ever hurt by the government giving out money!

There is a lot that could be said about that, but I'll leave it it that and people can draw their own conclusions

So let me see if I understand this?:

We should raise taxes on the elderly (Who many live on fixed incomes) and those who are on assistance to begin with

People who don't have any ties to school systems (Graduated out, no children, and the single individuals)

People in communities with a declining population

Many communities who are in a decline because of the economic strain from the past 20 years and are still struggling to stay afloat economically

This, so we can say you can now afford to travel 6 hours across the state to watch a 3 hour sporting event

Precisely! We must invest in our youth and communities! They are our future. I’m a big proponent of high tax and high service, we’d all come out better in the long run.

Never convince the east coast about what this end has to offer.  They refer to this whole part of the state as a hole and don't want anything to do with it.  If they want the mountains, Shenandoah will do just fine for them.

I love going to other areas and experiencing the new atmosphere and stadium and I'm in the position now that travel is not an issue and will go wherever we play.  With that said it is more than the schools.  Many families could be hard pressed to make the journey 3 or more hours to watch their kid or kin play.  Prime example is look at WV and how many fans travel when they go all over the state to play teams.

Bottom line is like it or not, what we have in place works best for the schools and families.

Oh I agree and not going to get a rise out of me.  I generally stay silent on hot topics but sometimes will have to really unload and don't care who it offends!

This is civil communication expressing the factual points of why something is 😁

That and I'm bored today waiting for the game this eve lol

My company takes one meal a month and donates to the schools that employees are from. But they do it based on percentage of each employee. Some schools get a little bit because some are shared between multiple county schools. Then there county the company is in gets all donations that week. It arranges from all the coverage area and some parts if tn and nc.
