GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted November 13, 2020 As of now... For sure, only 3 of 8 games in AAA, 4 of 8 in AA, and 5 of 8 in A will be played as scheduled. In AA, Bluefield has advanced to the second round due to forfeit by Clay Co. (not due to Covid), and North Marion and Independence have advanced because of Keyser and Frankfort forfeiting due to Covid. There are 9 total games that are tentatively scheduled for Sunday depending upon what the Covid map says on Saturday. If certain counties do not reach a gold status or better, those teams will forfeit. This is one giant mess...
GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted November 13, 2020 Just got word... The Clay Co. @ Bluefield game will be played on Sunday at 2PM. It just gets crazier...
GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted November 13, 2020 Covid map I keep referring to...green, yellow, and gold are OK for sports...orange and red are shutdown for sports... https://wvde.us/school-reentry-metrics-protocols/
Hokiebird7 1,416 Report Share Posted November 13, 2020 And people blamed va for moving season later in the year....hmmmm maybe VA did the right thing huh? This is a complete mess I agree

swva_havok_fan 1,261 Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 And meanwhile on the Tennessee side, Dobyns-Bennett's game with McMinn County tonight was cancelled due to a report of someone on McMinn County testing positive. Details are still coming out on this, but it would appear someone called in an anonymous tip to the State Health Department in Kingsport and reported the COVID case on McMinn. McMinn County is vehemently denying this allegation. Latest report says the TSSAA will make a ruling on Monday on who gets to advance... and be the unfortunate victim of Maryville who won tonight over Bradley Central 35-6. GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 The whackiness continues... in AA, the #16 seed knocks off the #1 seed and the #13 seed knocks off the #4 seed...
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 Bluefield’s gonna win the state title this year, aren’t they? 🤣 They always seem to win a title when not at their very best, which is odd. Probably their weakest team in 4 years, but yet, the path’s wide open.
Bluefield researcher 1,195 Report Share Posted November 14, 2020 Clay County BOE went to all virtual schooling on Friday. The Clay football team was told that they were not allowed to play under these conditions. I am not sure if it was the BOE or the WVSSAC. A court injunction was filed Friday by some Clay people and the judge agreed. The WVSSAC could appeal to the WV Supreme Court but the timing makes it so that the injunction holds thru the weekend. The Supreme Court could hear the case if appealed but it may be a mute point on Monday. Getting the injunction on Friday was the key as the WVSSAC can not appeal until Monday. GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted November 15, 2020 Another whacky thing... Bluefield vs. Clay Co. is the only game being played today, which gives both teams a short week if they win....
swva_fan 91 Report Share Posted November 15, 2020 Bluefield's game today from BDT "The attendance limitations that existed for regular seasons games have been changed as now 20 percent of the stadium’s capacity is the limit instead of just immediate family members." Why would they do this now?

Bluefield researcher 1,195 Report Share Posted November 15, 2020 Oak Glen is very good on the other side of the bracket. They have nice players. They are either cousins or brothers. Their last name is Patterson.
GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted November 20, 2020 More madness...in the quarterfinals... It's OK for some schools to play if they drop from Red to Orange on the Covid Map but not OK for others if they remain Orange on the Covid Map. This makes ZERO sense...and seems to open the door for lawsuits from teams that couldn't play if they were either Orange or Red last week... Question is...who will win a State Title without having to play a game in the Playoffs???

Yep, I don't know much about them, but by looking at their scores and comparing with common opponents across the state, etc, it sounds like Oak Glenn could propose a challenge for the Beavers if they meet. I hope they don't propose a challenge if they meet, but it looks like they are pretty good. Cal Preps has this game in favor of Oak Glenn by a score of 31 to 26 over the Beavers. BandanaVTDavis4321 1,717 Report Share Posted November 20, 2020 UVA Observer, keep in mind that VA has about 4 to 1 schools in amount compared to WV. In Virginia, for every Bluefield Beaver, there are at least 3 others. Just mathematical odds based on the volume of teams in VA compared to WV. So, if one says there are roughly 6, maybe up to 7 or 8 schools in VA's Class 2A equal, small 3A (WV AA), that could play with the top 2 AA schools in WV, this is correct and should be that way based on the number of schools in Virginia. Same for single A in West Virginia. For the best team in WEST VA single A ball, there should be at least 3 or 4 equals to that school in Virginia (for that same size level-approximate classification). But it isn't always transitive between states because some take the sport much more seriously and some states have huge cities that have gigantic talent pools. Illinois has more people than Georgia but GA football is miles ahead on the whole. I understand your point and it holds true if both states value the sport the same but football is becoming even more regional now. NY has a ton of people but they don't produce the talent that comparable Southern or even Midwest states trot out. Deleted Account
