If it's Tazewell for Appo or the Region C winner, it's a given they are coming from Wytheville up 81, and if Tazewell, it's actually 8 minutes faster getting off at Rocky Gap on Route 61, and you miss the state of WV and Bluefield all together.  The problem, dangerous road, even in 2021, and nothing other than Cove Creek and Grafton which there is no where to eat until you get to Tazewell.  Bluefield has more options, so even if Tazewell, it's safer and better to do the extra 8 minutes and go into the Bluefields.  In 1986, the year we (Giles played at Tazewell), we had a bus driver either crazy or insane or not smart enough that got off at Narrows from Pearisburg, and took 61 from Narrows all the way to Tazewell.  We went back on 460 after the driver had evidently discussed how we got there with some of the parents.  How the Coach Rags didn't pick up on it or not say anything, I don't know.  I can't remember that.  I just remember one he^^ of a ride getting there.  If you think the road from Rocky Gap to Tazewell is windy and narrow on 61, try going from Rocky Gap to Narrows on 61.  Back then, and I'm sure it's still probably like that,  there were spots were it was tricky getting one vehicle through, much less 2.  Back then, before GPS, internet, etc, it was kind of word of mouth and Giles had few trips back further west in our schools history before 86, so contrary to one might think, there wasn't as much to go on.  VT wasn't good in football, so the classic 460 trip out of SWVA through Pearisburg wasn't as common back then because people didn't travel to droves for VT games.

Went to Tazewell for a forensics tournament my senior year. Being a Smyth County bus driver, but not from the area, he knew that he couldn't take 16 across Walker Mountain, but thought he could cut through Rich Valley to Tannersville, then cross Clinch on 16. We should have known this was a bad idea when he turned down Possum Hollow in Rich Valley thinking it would take him past Rich Valley Elementary and Northwood Middle. He managed to miss the turn to Tannersville at Bradford, and made it all the way to the 42/16 intersection before he realized it, at which point he figured, "that sign says turn left for Tazewell," so, he went for it. Big Brushy is not as bad as Walker, but it's not much better, and considering we had already turned around and gotten a new bus because the brakes were going out on the one we were originally in, I've never seen a more panic stricken human than that bus driver on the north side of Big Brushy.

I would love to see Appomattox make a trip to Mitchell Stadium or Tazewell.  Tazewell is not much farther down the road from Bluefield (25 minutes).  It is a nice little town with some unique restaurants and places to visit downtown, plus your standard fast-food places.  You won't be disappointed.  Plenty of places to eat and relax nearby.in Bluefield also.  Very scenic drive through 2 mountain tunnels on the way, too.  Mitchell stadium is very impressive for a High School Stadium.  Tazewell's stadium is very similar to that of Appomattox.  I would hate to see you folks, or whoever comes out of region C to make that drive to BSG or Central, too!!

Me thinks you're not just concerned about the well being of Reg C fans with that last line.🤔😁

61 is a pleasant drive. Nothing bad on that road at all and get to avoid all the mess of bluefield and traffic lights. Want real adventure get off exit 58 and go through grapefield to get to 61. I live out here and wouldn't go any other way even if I didn't

You knew you were almost to Tazewell when the bus made the right turn at the Frog Level Yacht Club.

Bluefield is very nice i went to college at Bluefield Baptist. It's not a bad drive and the tunnels are cool, beats running speed trap 460 lol. Amazingly i never traveled west of Bluefield around Tazewell school. We used to go north to a place i think it's called pinnacle point or something and camp out or should i say get far off campus to have a few drinks.lol

Should have contacted me via police dept , I would have mailed it back to you

We did consider doing something like that but when drivers permit and credit cards are in her pocket book we felt it best to go back. We called the restruant and the manager stayed a few minutes late to meet us. Was well worth the trip tho as we met alot of very nice folks at the game and at the restruant. Hell we even had the grand opportunity to meet you, very nice time.

Pinnacle Rock? You should have kept driving north on Rt 52 and treated yourself to McDowell County.

Trip to Big St. Gap some years ago was great. Stayed in Bristol and then to UVA Wise for pre game lift and walkthroughs and lunch.

Loved the country side.
Trip home was LONG. Drove for an hour and hit 81 in Tenn.😳

I hope to make a trip to SWVA in a few weeks.

Well, let's hope if y'all make the trip to SWVA, it's actually to WV at Mitchell Stadium & not BSG, lol. By "let's" hope, I mean me. 😂 I know some of my board friends are hoping Region C will be traveling to BSG.

I'll be absolutely stunned if it's BSG. Wise is much, much more likely than Big Stone this year.

Let’s just say, there’s a good case that can be made for any 1 of 3 locations, 2 of which are along 460.  🙂

It's not totally unthinkable Union could upset Graham if they shorten the game and get a few lucky breaks, like the 2019 reg season game, but doing it twice would be one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. I don't expect Graham to win as easily as they did in 2019 playoffs but Union is a significant underdog. Winning once as a sizable underdog is an achievement worth celebrating, doing it twice would be absolutely stunning.

Who are Union's biggest play makers with Polier gone? That young man was a talent.

Probably the Jenkins kid at receiver.  He plays DB to and returns kicks, he's a good athlete.  Not really anyone else that stands out

I think the question that inquiring minds want to know most about this game, is that dang blasted train horn coming? 😂 Asking for all the people lucky enough to get a ticket and those of us possibly watching from the hilltop.

I doubt it.  Unless the dudes who usually bring it are somehow on the list of ticket holders.

Since they sent the police over for an air horn the last time we were there, I doubt the train horn will be coming. Lol

Plus, that thing is huge. Much bigger than the one from Giles. Little harder to sneak in.

Let’s not say “they”...some of us had nothing to do with that, lol. Let’s just hope for a good game, horns or no horns. Union has had the better opportunity to prepare with Graham being quarantined.

Don't be coy, we know it was you! 😁

As someone said before, so difficult to judge where each team stands this year. Even differences between week 1 and 6 could be huge. I don't know what to make of this game. I could see Union winning by 3 or losing by 40. Without a doubt, we'll know where everyone stands after this weekend!
