They had a freshman RB that scored 4 touchdowns against Galax and a sophomore QB & WR that connected for 3 touchdown passes. Doubt they’re going anywhere for a while.

All joking aside, they are as impressive a program as this state has ever witnessed.  We will see what happens when Casto retires, supposedly after next season.  But they have a wealth of talent.

The older Smiley brother gets all of the press but the younger one may be the best player on the team.  He was in on seemingly every tackle Saturday whether meeting a back at the line of scrimmage or tackling a receiver 25 yards down field.  He was hands down, the best player on the field Saturday!

We kinda noticed this same thing in February.  Little brother might be a better athlete.

Barnes blocked him every time he was his side of the field and handled him pretty well, some of the riverheads guys were saying that's because he was holding him but I've went back and watched some of the film and it was just 2 damn good football players going at it. When Barnes was in pass protection against him he didn't get to Picket and if he did it wasn't often, I would have to watch all the film to be certain.

The whole team did a good job in protection.  Riverheads didn't have a single sack.  But the younger Smiley kid wasn't tasked with rushing the QB from what I saw.  He stopped the run cold and was still able to beat DB's down field to tackle Galax receivers after they caught passes. Pack, McPherson and a coach from East Surry were talking about it after the game as well.

That kid don't get the attention his brother gets but he should!

Ne doubt he is a beast but in the second half he came off the end and Barnes was meeting him in the backfield. I've watched a lot of the film from Saturday and it was like two trucks hitting back there in the second half.

It's bad news for the rest of us when Riverheads has a freshman RB that has been dubbed "The Freak".  Cayden Cook-Cash's (6'3" 195 lbs) first varsity TD was a go-ahead TD against Tazewell. In the state-semis, he had 135 yards and 2 TDs.  Last Saturday against the Maroon Tide, Cook-Cash carried the ball 9 times for 97 yards and 2 rushing TDs in addition to returning a kickoff for a score.

Riverheads may run up 8-10 state titles in a row unless something is done about school districts’ manipulation of ADM figures.

Yeah, that was discussed in a lot of detail last summer.

I don’t foresee it fixing this problem.  In fact, it likely makes it worse.  You’d have schools like Graham forced to play down, which would put them in the same classification as Bland.  It may give Riverheads 1-2 new “challengers”, but creates more problems than it solves.

The article suggests Graham and Lebanon would drop to Class 1 under the new proposal.  "Two current Southwest District and Class 2 schools, Lebanon and Graham, would fall into Class 1 under the proposal."

How is that possible?  What am I missing?

Nevermind.  I remember this now.  VHSL would count grades 9-11 only, which makes about as much sense as screen doors on a submarine!

Why can't they just create a Class 1 for the smallest schools in the state, regardless of the number of schools, and divide everyone else equally into three or four classifications?  Well, I know why!  Something about VHSL and sensical solutions!

Perhaps I'm missing something as well. The statement regarding Graham and Lebanon seems incorrect. The schools listed below would all be Class 2 under the proposal.

"Schools with enrollments of 375 or below would be in Class 1; 376-751 in Class 2; 752-1199 in Class 3; and 1,200 and above in Class 4."

The proposal would only count grades 9-11.  Therefore, Graham would theoretically have 364 based on the ADM figures you provided.  That is, of course, dividing the ADM figures by 4 and subtracting that amount from the total ADM.

To me, this doesn't help.  This would be more problematic for more schools than just the smallest in the state.

Based on ADM figures from March 2020, schools in blue will be dropping classification. Schools in purple are 50 kids or less away from dropping down. That's not a huge number to lose, especially in SWVA. Union has lost over 80 kids since the 2018 ADM. Class 2 may get the worst out of this deal. Terrible solution.

Carroll County has averaged about a 30 kid decline each year for the past four or five years.  They could potentially be Class 2 by 2023-2024 if this proposal happens.

I'm all for reducing the classifications.  I think six is too many.  But it has to be done in a reasonable way.  Having Graham, Radford and John Marshall in the same classification as Bland, Rye Cove and Castlewood is ridiculous.

300 if we're lucky. The very bottom of 2A, which we won't be far from, could be playing schools with 480 more kids.

Absolutely great game this past Saturday, I was surprised as most from the outcome of the final score.  Good luck to the Seniors from each team, We wish the best for you. Best wishes to the future seniors as well.  It was a pleasure for us too host the game. Also a big THANKS TO THE MAROON TIDE for not kneeling during the National Anthem, like the BUMS From West Point and some of their parents did a week earlier.  Good luck in the future, we may just meet again!

I have so many questions! Are the .75 kids missing part of limbs? How about the .5 kids, are they the top or bottom half? .25, are they just a shin?

I need answers!

The .75 kids are all a result of tragic shop accidents, too horrid to discuss on an open forum. The. 5 kids are Mer folk. It varies as to whether the fish half is on the top or bottom. Kind of a hodgepodge, really. The .25 ones are just a head in a fish bowl looking thing, like the ones on Futurama. A result of the "Study of Medieval Torture Devices" class being a little more hands on...or, should I say, "hands off" than it should have been. Still not sure why kids keep signing up for that class. Although, Professor Reginald Stumpy did get Teacher of the Year again, so there's that.

Clear everything up?

Yeah it's ridiculous.  I use to live out east so I'm just glad Hopewell doesn't drop down to 2a.  They've grown since I lived out that way, it would've been them or Appomattox every year winning it.

What will satisfy us is you playing in class you should be in and not fibbing about numbers to beat up on little brothers in playoffs
