OldLPDGuy 0 Report Share Posted March 11, 2022 Curious if anyone has info on their school’s teams and how you think they’ll do this year in the M7, both boys and girls teams..
sixcat 2,913 Report Share Posted March 29, 2022 Since this has gotten no traction as an M7 only thread, lets open it up to all of SWVA, shall we?!?!? Galax lost head varsity soccer coach Troy Barkley to Pulaski in the offseason. Barkley led Galax to 5 state championships in 8 seasons and two runner-up finishes to boot. I don't fault coach Barkley for leaving. He grew up in Pulaski, played soccer and wrestled at Pulaski High School, and his entire family is in that area. It's early but the new coaching staff doesn't impress. Galax is 0-3 having been outscored 15-2. Considering Galax only lost two players from a state runner-up finish last season, it's hard to imagine a decline in talent being a root cause. Losing by 4+ goals a game is something else entirely. Unless they just lost all of the talent that was there, seems more like a coaching/tactics issue from the outside. sixcat
sixcat 2,913 Report Share Posted June 11, 2022 Galax had a dismal regular season by their standards, finishing 4th in the MED. Today, they won their 6th state championship in 8 seasons. They won their last 6 games of the season to finish 14-8-2.
