Ran well too, but due to being a scrimmage they blew the whistle as soon as it looked like a QB would be hit. He did not play on D. However, all the DBs looked very athletic. A few youthful mistakes, but tackled well. For this to only be the 3rd day with pads vs a team on their 4th scrimmage, I came away very impressed. He was at safety I thought when they played on just half the field. Getting old so maybe it wasn’t him Quote

Pray for em guys. Think about what you are posting before you post it. If you don’t like a coach, that’s one thing. As someone previously said, Union’s defense posted 4 shut outs last season. The defense allowed approximately 10.846 points a game last season. That includes games against a 6A team with about 2300 students in the school. Said 6A team was held to 13 points through 3 quarters before Union got too tired. Said defense also made it possible to beat then 2A defending champs, Graham, in regular season. Had Graham scared at halftime in the playoffs. Again, you don’t have to like him. However, given those statistics, if you’re going to call him a village idiot as a DC then you are screwed. Quote

Two defensive starters were hurt and they lost 20-13 to a kid who ended up being player of the year in 1-AA. The offense not the defense was the problem that day. Robbins was playing with a messed up hand/thumb if memory serves correctly. Injuries got to that bunch at the wrong time. You have to be good and lucky to win a state title. The point is the three man front seemed to be fine against GC/Giles/Clintwood/etc. Both wins over GC that year involved pretty big stops by the defense. I remember both wins over GC. Defense was tough both games. Defense clinched it in regular season on the last play of the game, breaking up a potential game tying TD pass. Defense recovered a fumble in the end zone to put PV up in the playoff game I remember the game against Manassas Park. Defense kept PV alive that game. The offense was not up to their usual standard from that season. Still had a chance to win late in the game. Down 20-13 with all the momentum in the game. PV was driving. A false start messed things up. Then a play or two after that on 4th down, Robbins throws to the end zone and it gets picked off. Manassas Park ran out the clock the rest of the game. Quote

And if they had played the best on the team they probably would have made better playoff showings. My stance is old school if someone else on the team whips your azz you don't start in that position. Playing both ways is our old LPD tradition. Let the best be the best. Let 72, 60, 75, 71 all play that DL see the difference. Quote

The craziest/best part of this is that it isn’t an understatement. As tough as it is to believe, he’s as much of a carbon copy as you can get. Jones really impressed me as the scrimmage Vs Betsy went on. They tried to go after him and he grew up a lot as he got more reps or shook off the butterflies. Union_Fan 1 Quote

FBDevotee Posted August 18, 2024 Report Posted August 18, 2024 Number 10 is junior Camden Wharton, 6'3" 190, IMO he is an ascending star. Number 24 is junior Josh Guerrant, 6'1" 190 and Union Bear fans are very familiar with the family name Guerrant. I don't know if they'll start as middle linebackers but I suspect opponents will be accustomed to those names by the ends of their last two seasons. The Bears have a very strong junior class and a very strong freshman class. Unchained 1 Quote
NorthGreeneHuskies88 Posted August 18, 2024 Report Posted August 18, 2024 Yep. Camden’s dad was band director at Powell Valley prior to consolidation. Quote
