Just reading about the VHSL giving the power to each region to assign their playoff system this year. If it hasn’t been discussed here already, or if it has, let’s talk about it some more.

What does region C and D do here? Will it be the same for 1A and 2A?

How will state Semi’s work?

Unless they're planning to simply alternate each year, there would have to be a statewide system.

One system to rule them all!

1. True and from what I've gathered it will go back to alternating regions being the home team like it was for many, many years, but do not quote me on this. I've also read there will still be a statewide VHSL rating system so I have heard both. One thing likely pretty certain, no VHSL rating system means alternating regions for the home team in the state semis and a VHSL rating system remaining in place likely means that in the semifinals, the VHSL rating system comes into play for deciding the home team.

2. These regions should....keyword....should have these systems in place early on and with NORMAL leadership, as soon as the VHSL made the announcement, ADs across each region should be picking up the phone, communicating, and getting busy Before it's late in the season and they start being Reactive instead of Proactive. With the above said, my money is willing to wager that most regions/ADs will jump on this quickly and early in the season and many are likely working on it already.

Prediction/Opinion only- look for Class 2, Region D to take the top 4 in each district minus Abingdon. I think they will keep it simple and likely not even have a power point system. Whatever Region D class 2 decides and any other region in Virginia for that matter it should be public knowledge EARLY in the season.

One more thing and maybe BluefieldResearcher or VHSLHelper would know this. It's my understanding that each region with deciding its own mechanism for making the playoffs does NOT have to take 8 teams. The max is 8, but if I'm understanding correctly, the regions do NOT have to take 8 teams. For example, they could take 6. Hopefully my region, Class 1, Region C will wise up and stop putting in 8 teams because it seems to me that for as long as I can remember, there are always 2 teams that shouldn't be anywhere near the playoffs and yes sometimes that team has been the one I root for.

Dude everyone has to get a trophy(playoff berth even at 2-8 or so) lol

The Regions don't HAVE to have ANY playoffs.

The VHSL 'requires' one team from each Region... that's it.

Now... for having another system ready... what's the hurry????? The ratings are still being done.

I've been thinking about this for years... and there is NO perfect rating system. Maybe tweak the points, so a win is 15, or something like that. Or add a seeding rule so a 9-1 doesn't get seeded above a 10-0 that beat them.

I think having another system ready represents an endpoint...a goal. It's a possible barometer. Anytime you have the above, in my opinion, it's helpful to know that up front when you start. It can also serve as a motivator for some, perhaps a very small motivator, but still for some, a motivator. On the flip side of the new system, one could pose the opposite question. Why wait?

Since it doesn't start until 2025, if I'm an AD, then NO way would I work on the system this year, but now that I have had well over 1 years notice, I wouldn't wait until 3 or 4 or 5 games into next season (2025) to decide on what system my region is using. I would have that in place by regular season game 1.

Our AD will wait till 2026 to worry about it
