Graham32 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 With the regular season right around the corner let’s hear some bold predictions. All the returning players Union has I’m going to say they win the title in 2A. Real Sasquatch 1 Quote
GilesBandanaMan Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 I'm going with Gretna, Union, Graham, Glenvar (in no particular order) to win the state title over Riverheads/Poquoson in the East. All 4 in the west with Union, Graham, Gretna, and Glenvar will be neck and neck and the winner will be decided by which of these Class 2 schools suffers the least injuries/have the best health come games 12, 13, 14. Radford, King William, Clarke County, Strasburg, Appomattox, Ridgeview, Tazewell, and Gate City will be good, but None of them good enough to win a title this year. In Class 1, George Wythe comes out of the west to play an undefeated Essex team and that game is a toss up. GW and Essex are still Class 1 and Class 1 schools have little to zero margin for error in the injury department. If GW and Essex have two key injuries, they can quickly go from an elite Class 1 team to a "good" class 1 team, and "good" teams don't win state titles, but Elite teams do. A 100 percent healthy Rye Cove or Honaker or Galax could take down a wounded GW and same for Altavista and Sussex battling with Essex. Quote
GilesBandanaMan Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 One thing going against Graham. Graham's 22 on the field (offense and defense) will be the best in Virginia Class 2, but they do not have a mobile QB. Their QB can sling the he$$ out of the ball, and I heard he has put on serious weight from his sophomore to junior year, but....he's not super mobile and you think back to all the state champions in VA Class 2 ball since 2009ish (15 years) and try to pick out how many Class 2 champions didn't have a QB with impressive wheels, and yes, the Meadows kid at Graham absolutely could run the ball even though built like a fullback. He was deceptively fast in straight line speed and could run over top of linebackers. Think about it...Appo, K. William's QB, Cam Allen and Graham, even Glenvars QB the year they stomped us (Giles) when we were considered favorites had a mobile QB. It is possible, but just going by history, it's really, really rare in class 2 to win a title without a very mobile QB. I'm not saying Grahams QB is Immobile either, but he's less mobile than any starting QB to win a Class 2 title that I can think of in the last 15 years. He is also likely a BETTER passer than 12 or 13 out of those 15 years of state title QBs, but there's something about very mobile QBs at the Class 2 level and state championships and that's not an opinion, it's a fact if we look back 15 years. UnionGuy2017 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Not that I necessarily think these will happen, but they are worthy of the bold prediction thread for sure! • Ridgeview wins the M7. • Honaker has a steep fall off. • Richlands finishes 3rd in the SWD. Hokiebird7 Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 Giles will win more than 3 games like last year...even though last year's backs were so much faster than this years Quote

Ridgeview is being severely overlooked. I’m telling you, they are loaded, lost zero playmakers, all of them have been heavy on the off season training. Line is I also in great shape, defensively they are going to be very exciting. Several kids come up who were held back but will make big impacts. Gonna be exciting season in the M7! Quote
RichRich Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 did centrals jv team that's been coming up for 10 yrs ever arrive? if so this will be the yr for them Quote

I know he’s only one player but it’s actually like losing 3. He was pretty much a shutdown corner and the best PR in the district by far. If this team had him along with Sykes who transferred to DB I could’ve seen them winning it all Quote

I would like to see Graham run the wildcat some more this year with Cambell Fix, he has good speed and toughness. As for a bold prediction - I'll say Tazewell goes to Riverheads and stuns the gladiators this season. GilesBandanaMan and Graham32 2 Quote

That pretty much leaves Narz and Auburns replacement. I doubt they beat all 4 of those. Edited August 12, 2024 by 60minuteMan hit post by accident before finishing Quote
GilesBandanaMan Posted August 12, 2024 Report Posted August 12, 2024 BandanaBunch will beat BBurg, Narrows, Grayson, EM, and split with Galax/Fort Chiswell putting us at 5-5 on the season. Sure losses- Bluefield, Wytheville, Radford, Tazewell. Just my opinion Quote

At some point, just by shear numbers, Blacksburg should get a bit better. will it be this year? we'll find out shortly. For the last few years, Giles has gave Galax all they can handle, in the first half. Just to get physically beat down in the 2nd half. 2 years ago, Giles played the worst football game I've ever witnessed a Spartan team play against Ft. Chiswell at the Fort. Last year they manned up and beat an even better Fort team at home. Which Giles team shows up at Fort this year. I got Grayson as a BIG ? mark. Giles line should be better this year. Not sure the skill guys will be any better. If I was a betting man, I'd say 3-7 again. But 5-5 is do-able. Quote

RichlandsAlum Posted August 13, 2024 Report Posted August 13, 2024 Liberty (Bedford) will double last year's cumulative season point total. (Which was 6 for those of you who are actually curious.) wdr31 1 Quote
