BoBob Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 Giles back to where they use to be or is Radford down more than people thought. The high scoring 35-34 game had me curious. Quote
Union_Fan Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 Reading comments from Giles posters, the Radford score was more indicative of Radford being down than Giles being "up." A question for you. Is Appo running low on talent or is this a result of Doug Smith leaving? Combination? BoBob 1 Quote
RadCat Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 For sure, Radford is down. Talent is there. Some of it is really young. Really feels like there is a lack of player leadership on the field. BoBob 1 Quote

The high scoring 35-34 game had me curious. Two Touchdowns a piece was scored in the 2 overtimes. Was 21 a piece at end of regulation. The final outcome and Giles playing them close was MOSTLY due to Radford being down from last year, but not Completely. Giles isn't back by any means, but we played that game defensively regarding technique and tackling as good as we have in a while. BoBob 1 Quote
nrv_football Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 Honestly if Giles plays the rest of the season defensively like they did against Radford they win 3 games for sure. They will beat Narrows, East Mont, Fort and I am confident in that. They have a shot against Grayson and Galax also. GW no, Tazewell no and Bluefield no. BoBob 1 Quote

In saying that Coach Castello is a great coach in his own right (he was the interim coach when Coach Smith was out in 2020 and the Raiders won the 2A title that spring). Talent is in the school but not coming out and there have been some discipline issues that took away some players and both were starters last year. While both of those are a loss on the field the team will be better off with one of the losses. It will be a long year here I believe. Union_Fan 1 Quote
SWVAgridiron Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 Truthfully any team that has some decent speed in the secondary and knows how to defend a pass will beat Radford. Their 3 tds in regulation were all due to our guys just getting burnt. Unlike Clark, this qb is no threat when it comes to making things happen with his feet. Their run defense is nothing like last years. Giles had 350+ rush yards against them. They definitely have speed, just seem to lack experience. I see Radford finishing 6-4 at best with losses to Va High, Glenvar, and Alleghany. Floyd may very well take them down. BoBob 1 Quote

Has good arm strength and very accurate, but nothing close to the legs of Clark. I put Radford at 6-4 or 5-5. Alleghany is a sure loss (and a bad loss). Glenvar is a loss. That puts them at 7-3 AT BEST right there. Virginia High, Carroll County, Floyd County, and Patrick County are toss ups in my opinion. Radford could lose all 4 or win all 4 or a combination of that with the 4 schools above in my opinion. I think they lose no more than 2 out of those 4 to put em at 5-5 but likely find a way to win 3 of those 4 and finishing at 6-4 on the season. Just my opinion. SWVAgridiron and BoBob 2 Quote
bulldog05-CO2017 Posted September 10, 2024 Report Posted September 10, 2024 Doesn’t Giles run the wing t? If so they may give tazewell a run for the money. Tazewell has a hard time stopping it. Quote

Tazewell has a hard time stopping it. We rushed for 440 yards against Tazewell last year. The problem is that we gave up almost 600 yards… I think we will have some success running the ball against them but they will eat us alive through the air again bulldog05-CO2017 1 Quote
