This game comes down to one thing. Union's ability to contain O'Quinn through the air AND picking up 1st downs with his feet.

Defending the pass has been Union's achilles heel nearly every year. They have to get pressure on the QB and break up or intercept some passes.

If Ridgeview throws for 250-300 yards, it will either be a high scoring affair or a giant L for the Bears.

If they can't stop the pass, Union will need to play ball control and hope for some Wolfpack mistakes.

This right here is one of those games where it's about as fun as it gets. Hopefully NFHS has it on.  I don't think this game is within 10 pts for the winner. Seems to me like momentum and style will be huge in this game and whoever wins will have the momentum and a decent size lead playing their style and tempo. I think the game is not super super close in final score. Whoever wins will do it by 10 or more points.

Where Union is weak is where Ridgeview is strong. Matchups matter, and because of that I think Ridgeview puts it on us pretty good and set up a collision course with the Gmen, who I think they will also beat.

The ONLY way I see Union winning is if they can get massive amounts of pressure on O’Quinn. That’s your only shot because the rest will not match up.

By the way, Union hasn’t won At Ridgeview since 2016…

I’ve watched both of these teams live this year. Union has a decision to make in stopping the RV passing game: blitz and risk getting gashed on underneath routes or drop their LBs into coverage and not generate enough pressure to affect O’Quinn.  Another decision they have to make, whether to double up Baker or not. For the love of God, if RV insists on playing Baker as an X (on the line and on the numbers) and putting their bigger and slower WRs off the line, I’m walking out the stadium.
I think RV is faster than Union.  Union has to make a decision on where/if to play Bostic on defense.  I’m not sure sitting him back as deep safety helps much.
If I’m RV, I’m motioning Baker all over the damn field.  I’m motioning him on run plays and motioning him across the formation.  We will see if RV has learned how to effectively use motion to keep a defense from keying a WR.  Two years ago in the region championship they didn’t know how to use motion to get Beavers free.  Will they let Union take Baker out of the game.  If they do…they haven’t learned a dang thing.  Now, here is where Union might have a big problem, Honaker as a WR.  In my opinion, he has the best hands of RV’s WRs and he loves to go across the middle.  He is a very underrated WR…..I personally think he might be the best in the M7…especially in terms of catching with his hands. Now, those two are hard enough to handle but RV has several other WRs that can catch as well.  Additionally, they have to deploy Baker in the run game better, I’d love to see him back there with Deel on a package.

On defense, I’d move Scanlon from DE to DT to help combat Chandler.  I noticed RV put more beef on the DL last night than I’ve seen before.  Maybe that was a prep move to condition those big boys for Union.  If so, that’s a great tactical decision by the coaching staff. RV’s LB core is fast and will hit.  Honaker at the MLB spot, is not one bit intimidated by Chandler and that is going to be a great battle to watch. For those not super familiar with these two teams, that’s the matchup to keep an eye on.
Union will get their yardage on the ground but I think they’ll have to throw some.  The RV secondary has looked a lot better recent weeks but they still worry me on verts.  I saw some solid zone coverage and handing off coverage responsibilities last night.  Like I said a couple of weeks ago, they’ll get a lot better as the season progresses.

I’m curious as to how RV handles Bostic….whether they spy him or not.  I don’t think they can devote a LB and lose that support against Chandler.  Maybe a zone based spy concept or devote a safety.  The problem with that is two verts destroys that.  One thing for sure, Rose Ridge is the place to be next Friday night.

You need to drive to Rose Ridge for this one.  It is going to be a great atmosphere.

Forget that makeshift NFHS.. it’ll be on WCYB Friday night rivals if you can’t make the drive.

Given it some thought to drive to the Ridge SwvaOG. We're suppose to head down for Myrtle Beach this Tuesday for the winter and this is the point where I go to the Loris games. If I could get my wife to budge and hold off a week, I would go see it. I've never been to Ridgeviews Stadium.

Thank goodness, so I know it's watchable. Will probably be watching from Myrtle on computer, with Giles and GW on phone (NFHS) while watching Loris in person. A 3 in one.

Polish dogs on me.  I’ll gladly host you.

Battle of the QBs. RV is more battle tested and plays QB much better traditionally. Not taking sacks, throwing balls away, etc.

Union has an underrated group of WRs but the route concepts stink. Very little variation and Bostic bails out of pocket WAY too early. But he’s lethal on the edges and if he gets a corner watch out, he can go 80.

I think if Union can really dominate on the ground they can win. If they can only rush for 150-200 and it’s higher scoring, RV wins. At home, tough to bet against RV, but the Union defense should be able to force RV to throw bc the run defense is very good.

You have GOT to take Chandler out of the pass defense. You have to. If you insist on playing him outside and having to cover slots or TEs, RV is gonna embarrass you.

This was outstanding…You could be a broadcast analyst for this game.

Chandler to Defensive End on 2nd and longs or 3rd and longs?

Chandler to me seems like he would be a handful at Defensive End and having the ability to collapse one side of the field on many plays, even to the point of forcing RV to have help with a running back to block him, or any team for that matter.

He’s wasted at outside LB imo.  Watch carefully though #10 for Union is in on every tackle and no one seems to notice it or give him any credit

Trying to have him in space covering passes has been wholly ineffective.  One of the best in run support but just is not an OLB who can cover any TE or slot guys.

Agree but he’s not been the biggest problem giving up receiving yards

If I were RV, I’d try to isolate him on the slot.  The problem is that TV likes to set up their bigger WRs in the slot, which completely would nullify that advantage.  I’d try to scheme it up.
