When will consolidation take place for some of these smaller schools?

There has been some talk about some school’s struggle to field teams, where and when will some of these take place?

I would say Bland County but they’ve already consolidated and have struggled to keep a team going but give Harris Hart credit. He’s trying to get the program built back up. I wish they could get a couple more wins. I’m impressed because it looks like they’ll be able to finish out the season.

IMO, Wise County is going to be wishing that they had went with the proposed two school model on Hamburger Hill, which could later have been pared down to one school.

That was the preferred model of the School Board Office, but the public was never going to go for it.

Giles County will consolidate when I feel like making the call. Gotta be nice and give the guys on the western end of the county a little more time to come to terms with it.

Tazewell County would be an interesting one when it comes to consolidation. I would say it would be a two-school situation, one in the Pounding Mill area, somewhere around Cuz's, I would presume, and the other likely in the Bluestone Tech Park area.

In my opinion, that could come sooner than most people would expect.

Boy, this would piss off Graham and Tazewell, but is there any chance they keep Richlands and build a new school in the Bluestone area?  They could push the boundary for Richlands up to the end of Baptist Valley, and eastward on Rt 460 to even the numbers out.   The commute for those kids wouldn't be bad (30-40 minutes) and no mountain roads.  The move would save a considerable amount of money for the county. The split would be Richlands kids plus about 1/3 of Tazewell kids and the other school would be Graham kids and 2/3 of Tazewell kids.

You put Tazewell kids inside RHS against their will... They'll burn that building all the way down to the asbestos.

I’d be surprised if it’s anytime soon after dropping millions on 2 new football fields.

That's a drop in the bucket. Wise Co wasted 10 million dollars to get consolidation approved in 2011. Over a million of that was to add a gym to a school that didn't need it, only to close 5 school years later. It was basically a bribe for a vote.

With the elementary school closures in Russell County, I’ve wondered about them, as well. Those 3 all have lower enrollments than the Tazewell County schools.

You all are talking about consolidation.  Are there any schools that are over crowded and might need to build a new school to relieve overcrowding?

They might do like Buchanan County and put it on the Tazewell, Russell County line.

Not SWVA related but just to show how much of a difference a ~1 hour drive can make. 
 

Over my way the Daniel Boone feeder schools are absolutely packed. One of the elementary/middle schools was just built less than 10 years ago and there is already a need for another. The entire area from Kingsport-Knoxville is experiencing a boom.
