Unchained Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Union Bears hosting the Abingdon Falcons at Bullitt Park Friday. Thoughts? I think the Bears are a tough matchup for the Falcons, but a sloppy game by Union could doom them, as the Falcons are a capable bunch. Barr is an outstanding back, and they have a good o-line. 27-14 Bears is my pick. Quote
Gridiron60 Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Union should have no problem beating Abingdon by two or three scores. HurricaneWarning 1 Quote

GilesBandanaMan Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Favor Union at home for sure, but again we're talking about a team in Abingdon (Claas 3) with a bit more talent and depth and size than the normal run of the mill Class 2 school, and they did win over Christiansburg. That talent, depth, and size has not shown the quality of play on the field as Union has, but it is still a threat and has the ability to show up for one game. Abingdon can win this football game. If Union gets a few holding penalties and plays flat and brings its C or B- game and Abingdon brings its A game, Abingdon can win. Union 27, Abingdon 14 Quote
UnionGuy2017 Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 I think offensively Abingdon has more talent and is more physical than we may give them credit for. I think they could give us trouble if they hold the ball for an entire quarter like they did against the pack. However, Unions run defense imo is drastically better than Ridgeviews outside of #17 Honaker. Offensively, Union will have a big advantage over the Falcon D. I see potential for Bostic, Chandler and Co. to have a good night. Plus, contrary to popular belief, Turner typically has a nice wrinkle after a bye week. Quote

We saw some wrinkles and what I have been wanting all season (pitches and sweeps) vs Central. I think Chandler can do serious damage with that. Quote

Union_Fan Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 This game is for the M7 championship, which truly means nothing other than bragging rights. I haven't gone through all the calculations yet, but it's looking like it doesn't even matter for playoff seeding. It would appear that Union is already locked into the #2 seed, win or lose. One thing it does do is prepare each team for the playoffs. A good, hard-nosed, physical game will be good for both squads. I thought Abingdon and Ridgeview were pretty even on the lines with the edge going to the Falcons late in the game. Had Ridgeview not fumbled that ball, we'd be viewing this game from a totally different perspective. It will be senior night and the Bears will come out fired up. A little rain in the forecast, which means it'll probably be gone by Friday. The running game and speed gives the Bears the edge. Not surprised if Abingdon has a few long drives for scores, but I think Union comes out on top 28-14. Quote

Must be pretty good to hold Ridgeview to 7 and shutout Gate City When GC played Abingdon, they were trying too hard for Houseright to be QB. Much like Union, that didn't go anywhere. With the change at QB, GC would score points in a rematch, but not enough to win. Ridgeview's passing game was off, just like against Union. That fumble on the 5 yard line didn't help either. The RV RB getting hurt might have thrown their plan off a bit, but they still had 184 rushing yards and the Pack isn't exactly a rushing team. I think Union is a bad matchup for Abingdon. The Bears will need to get a a few passes going to prevent the Falcons from loading the box, but I think Chandler will get over a 100. The designed QB runs by Bostic should work too. I'm not saying that the Falcons are bad at all, but their offensive and defensive weaknesses will play into Union's strengths. goose111874 1 Quote
Observer Posted October 28 Report Posted October 28 This game might be over by 8:15 the way both of these teams run the ball. Possessions will be at a premium Friday night. Quote
swva_havok_fan Posted October 28 Report Posted October 28 Union wins and it won't even be close. Quote
FBDevotee Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Abingdon & Union has become one of the more exciting and tightly contested SWVA high school football conference games each season since the Mountain Seven was formed. This fall it shouldn't be any different. Union's offense has improved as the year has went along - the Bears only start two seniors and the young players have really grown - especially QB Bostic. On defense, the Bears have several impressive players but I really like their two ends Anderson and Kennedy - both are 6'3" tall and weigh over 200 lbs; both are quick and strong. Quote

CriticalNoise Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Same old crap. Travis can’t win big games. Never have, Never will. Abingdon runs at your throat all night long and you stay in a 4 man front? Come on. Quote
UnionGuy2017 Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Congrats to abingdon. They wore us out all night. Another example of piss poor preparation. Quote

UnionGuy2017 Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Momentum really swung when Bostic couldn’t get the ball close to Bunch on an out route on 4th and 5ish. Huge miss there. Quote
