The Justices make the 320 mile drive from Richmond to Bristol to take on the Bearcats. The JM football team does not, in fact, have any stolen AAU players so this one will probably be a snoozer

So in lieu of football discussion, let's talk about some possible signs VHS should put up around the stadium

My nominees:

"This Ain't Basketball"

"Thanks for coming, please stay away from our players"

Also the coaching staff should wear Team Loaded AAU polos

I'm going to go 50-50 on JM showing up. There's something about not so great teams having a quick trigger to cancel when 3 conditions are present.

1. The traveling team is not a football culture school and is not that great or has no real chance to do anything in the playoffs.

2. it's late in the year.

3. it's a long long way. Whether it's 'not enough players due to injury" or "illness," something tells me it's 50-50 on JM coming. If they do, VH by 24 points. I am Not saying JM will not show up. I Am saying don't be surprised if they cancel in the next few days.

The only issue with mentioning players would be their retort: "We don't need your HS kids, we have our own 19 yr old D1 college MEN"

Maybe keep it simple...

"A lot harder to cheat at football, huh?"

"I drove 320 miles to Bristol for a football game, and all I got was this lousy butt kicking"

"I guess it's harder to come up with 22 fake addresses than 5"

I'm sure this game came about as the result of the basketball game, but I still have to ask what is the point of it and who approached who? I can't imagine traveling 640 miles round trip for a season ending trip when you have only won 2 games on the year. Bizarre....

Jenkins told Va High they weren't going to play, so Va High started looking for a game. They discovered that JM was also looking for one.

The stars and schedules aligned, so they made a date for this Friday. I'm sure the connections from the basketball game helped grease the wheels.

I had forgotten about the Jenkins game.

What's likely..... At the state title basketball game, the two football coaches or the 2 ADs run into each other and strike up a conversation.

They did, but apparently, they told Va High all the way back in May or June they specifically weren't playing them. I thought that was interesting. The quote in the BHC was "they(Jenkins )would not be making the return trip to Bristol this year."

I'm sure. I just don't understand why they (JM) would want to travel 640 miles with a terrible football team that is going to get boat raced.

Some of this is for the kids/exposure, literally almost like a field trip for probably what is many kids in the Richmond area who have never seen SWVA, and some maybe have never seen a mountain. I go a different route on this one. I love the idea of a team taking 1 (just 1) 5 or 6 hour trip to see another part of the state or bordering states. Easier said than done of course and money and time are huge factors, but if possible, I love the idea.

I think it would be great for example, for a Central Wise to travel to play a Clarke County for a Satirday game, take the kids to Gettysburg on Friday afternoon, play Saturday and drive home. Expensive for sure. A pain in the arse for fans and parents? For sure. But a gigantic memory those kids will never forget in their lifetime.

As for JM, keep in mind this team cancelled on Riverheads late in the season last year and I'm still 50/50 on them making the trip.

Not to mention they think everyone in SWVA is like Deliverance.

Yeah, some of those people need to get out more often. We were out on the beach Sunday when a guy asked me if we were local. When I said yes, he asked me about the location of another area beach. While talking to him, he mentioned he was from Virginia, and looking at some areas of Florida to retire to. I told him I was a Virginia native, and asked him where he was from. He said Mechanicsville, and I told him I knew exactly where that was. He had never heard of Big Stone Gap, and I told him it was in far SWVA. He said "oh, close to Roanoke?" I said no, way west of Roanoke, but he looked at me like I was shitting him. He obviously believed Virginia ended at Roanoke.

Afton Mountain will be the first mountain many of them have ever seen.

I agree with the exposure stance, get kids out of their comfort zone and open them to new things.
