Honaker coaching situation

Seen a tweet from Tim Hayes this morning that Wicks is already out as Honaker coach and Aaron Lowe is taking over effective immediately as interim.

Wonder what's going on there?

Very odd indeed. "Usually" only 2 explanations for such an impromptu departure:

1. Another job

That’s a huge one these days! So many “know more” than the coach, want their baby coddled & to be the superstar!

The #1 reason we don't see many young coaches or those that are younger why they get out of coaching in a few years.

Guess I'd lump that in with personal troubles because if you have parent issues, then you're "personally" ticked off and ready to quit. haha

Isn't Lowe the parent that encouraged the mess for the Richlands girls basketball team a couple years ago? If it's the same guy, I think he's better than Saban in football and Phil Jackson in basketball. This might be exactly what Honaker needed.

Gosh, I hate seeing this.  Don't know the reasons.  Best wishes to Coach Wicks and the remaining season for the Tigers.

Good luck to Coach Wicks and the Tigers. From an outside perspective this is a very bad look. No matter the reasons, instability is not good for a program of any type, sports or otherwise.

Some of the students that followed Lowe to Honaker could go back to Richlands. Maybe him getting interim coach is a bone for bringing Richlands kids to Honaker.

It says interim, my guess is he finishes out season then they advertise but he’ll apply & probably get it. Just my thoughts

Honaker has some really good kids coming up and this job should attract some really good coaching candidates. I saw the middle school team play twice and they went undefeated with some great talent. They were fun to watch with a quarterback who is above average for a middle school kid and some big kids upfront. I don't see Honaker falling off any over the next four years. Honaker could get some transfers with the right coach the way kids move around in Russell County.

This is correct. There are a lot of connections to this situation as well. If the same kids, there are some that transferred from Richlands, held back, had coaches on the coaching staff and/or both. I cannot speak ill in good conscience because I have not personally witnessed or experienced any negatives with the interim coach and others, plus I haven’t watched them play. I’m willing to bet that coaching decisions can greatly influence a couple of those key players if you read between the lines. A lot of dominoes can fall quickly.

I’ll be more transparent. Frankly, there is a lot of daddy ball In Russell and Tazewell counties. I don’t mean nepotism because it just so happens that many of the more talented kids have dads in key coaching positions. The merit and playing time is warranted. There is jus a lot of packaged deals right now and in today’s world, that’s more powerful than the head coach (unless hand-picked) or administration.
