His kid is gonna be the next 4 year starter 10,000 yard passer in SWVA. I was very impressed with him from what I saw last year as an 8th grader In today’s climate this is almost as important on a resume as simple knowledge of the game and relating to kids. This doesn’t discount the coaches qualifications and isn’t to single out this coach. There are multiple package deals among several coaching staffs throughout SWVA. I’m pointing out the fact that in the smaller schools especially, it has become an even more important ingredient to success in recent years. In a sense, you possibly get the X’s and O’s with the Jimmy’s and Joe’s. Quote

CPF Posted March 12, 2025 Author Report Posted March 12, 2025 Seth Padgett had an emotional meeting with the football team at Patrick Henry High School on Monday as he informed the squad that he was relinquishing his job as head coach of the Rebels to take the same position at Tazewell. “It’s one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to do, because I love Patrick Henry and I love those kids there,” Padgett said. “They’ve been great, our fans are great, our parents are great. I love everything about Patrick Henry, but I think Tazewell is a really good opportunity. “It’s a football-hungry place with a lot of people who want to win. There’s a lot of resources there and when you have those things combined you’ve got something special.” Seth Padgett. Bristol Herald Courier Padgett compiled a 37-20 record during his five seasons at PH with VHSL Region 1D runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022. His teams ran the ball with authority as the Rebels had three 2,000-yard rushers – Connor Beeson (2021), J-Kwon McFail (2022) and Cam Goodspeed (2023) – over the course of his tenure leading the program. I attribute a lot of my football success to him. Truly one of a kind.” Padgett took over at PH for Mark Palmer, who went 62-43 in nine seasons at the helm and was 13-1 with a regional championship in his final season in 2019. Padgett was hired during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Patrick Henry coach Seth Padgett in the spring of 2021. Earl Neikirk, Neikirk Image “Coach Palmer did a great job, and he had built something there and I just tried not to screw it up and I tried to add to it,” Padgett said. “I think we did that in those five years and that’s a tribute to those kids. It’s a special place to me and it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart.” A 2002 graduate of now-defunct St. Paul High School where he excelled in multiple sports, Padgett later played college football at Union College in Kentucky. Seth Padgett was a multi-sport star during his days at St. Paul High School. Bristol Herald Courier His extensive coaching resume includes stints as an assistant at St. Paul, Eastside, Patrick Henry, Fort Chiswell and Chilhowie. He spent the 2017 season as the head coach at Santa Rosa Academy in Menifee, California, going 5-4-1 at the school located 40 miles north of San Diego and 60 miles south of Los Angeles. “Coach Padgett had a great interview along with an impressive resume,” said Tazewell principal Jerry Smith. “We had several very impressive applicants for the job and the decision was a tough one. I believe Seth is the right person to lead Bulldog football to the next level of success.” Padgett replaces J’Me Harris, who compiled a 39-43 record in eight seasons with six playoff berths. The Bulldogs have several former players currently competing at the college level and quarterback Carter Creasy put up big numbers as a four-year starter. “I want to say that Coach Harris did a great job these last eight years and we’re just going to try to build on that and see if we can make it better,” Padgett said. “We’re just going to try to put the best product on the field.” Whoever takes over for Padgett at PH should still have a quality team as top running back Jeb Stewart returns. Austin Cooper and Tim Burke – assistants on Patrick Henry's staff in 2024 – have previous head-coaching experience. Cooper led the Hurley Rebels in 2019 and the spring of 2021, while Burke was John Battle’s coach in 2000 and 2001. “Seth did a very good job as the head coach of our football program,” said Patrick Henry principal Tim Duncan. “Tazewell High School is fortunate to have Seth and I wish him the best of luck. We will post our head football coaching vacancy soon and hopefully have a new coach named by early-May if not sooner.” Padgett is looking forward to challenge as he moves from coaching in the Class 1 Hogoheegee District to the Class 2 Southwest District. He went against SWD members Lebanon and Virginia High the previous two seasons at Patrick Henry. “It was time to go. I found that [PH] program in a good spot and it’s been left in a good spot for the next guy,” Padgett said. “Whoever comes in, they are going to have some really good players back.” Gridiron60, Bulldogs52 and Wildcat/Chanticleer 1 2 Quote
