1inStripes Posted January 23, 2025 Report Posted January 23, 2025 Saw on Twitter that long time Belfry coach Phillip Haywood has passed away. Was a head coach at Prestonsburg in 75 and moved to Belfry not long after leading the Pirates to 8 state titles and 14 title game appearances. swva_havok_fan and JDHoss 2 Quote

A true coaching legend in the Bluegrass State, has put multiple players in D1 and a few went onto the NFL, I caught a few games at Belfry in 08-10 timeframe, that a fun place to watch football. RIP Coach! JDHoss 1 Quote
JDHoss Posted January 24, 2025 Report Posted January 24, 2025 One of my best friends played for Philip Haywood in the late 80's and early 90's. He told me yesterday that he had passed away. The first game I went with him to at the old stadium, he introduced me to Coach Haywood and we were invited into the locker room for the pregame talk. Meeting him and listening to him speak before the game, it was easy to see why his players loved him and played so hard for him. He was a great coach and even better human being. 1inStripes 1 Quote
