Dodgers Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Great atmosphere and game at PH last night. Both teams are solid and gave everything they had. One of the biggest 1A crowds I've seen in awhile. In my opinion PH is the better team mainly because of their size. Its good to see PH having some success as their program has struggled for many years. Chilhowie came out in a 3-2 zone making PH looked confused on how to attack it as they showed little ball movement leaving the game tied at the half at 24. PH wore down Chilhowie with their size in the second half winning by around 15 but neither team really shot the ball well. I still think both teams will advance to the state tourney with PH winning 1D. This is not the best Chilhowie team I've seen but they are well-coached and play hard as usual. I don't see anyone in 1D beating Geoege Wythe but I could be wrong. I will say PH has one of the best principals in the area in Tim Duncan. I have a lot of respect for that man as he is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I can guarantee you the students, teachers, and coaches love this man. It was good getting to see him last night. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year. Quote
1inStripes Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 PH is tough. The Caywood boys are a mismatch for almost everyone but even their other guards aren't short. In that 1-3-1 they leak a defender out around half court once the opponent gets pinned on the baseline because they know percentage wise the odds are in their favor getting a rebound or turnover creating easy transition buckets. It's taken quality teams on bigger floors to beat them so far. GW would be a touch matchup for them but if GW has an off shooting night it would be a fun contrast. Auburn starting to come along as well in C in unfortunately. Dodgers 1 Quote

The atmosphere was great and it was good to see the student sections participating as opposed to staring at their phones! The tempo of the game and the size of the court definitely favored PH. Full court pressure and an up tempo pace gives the Rebels problems. George Wythe will have no problem with either of these teams down the road. Dodgers 1 Quote

I know Lancaster lost Henderson, their all world player, to JM so I wonder who out east will be favorites to advance on that side. Quote

GW, PH, Fort Chiswell, Auburn and Parry McClure may be the top 5 in 1A this year. Franklin, Northumberland and Brunswick are probably the best out east. Quote
