volunteer Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 With the season ending, who wins the boys Mountain 7 Player of the Year? Quote
Observer Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Should be Ean Hayes but they will give it to Ethan Collins because he's a senior.... Heck they might give it to McAmis. She wins every other award she shouldn't win... Bball_Fan 1 Quote
Widespread_Panic Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Definitely should go to Hayes. His first year on varsity they go undefeated in the Mountain District. Ethan Collins is good but in his previous three years on varsity Wise Central's record was .500 at best. Bball_Fan 1 Quote

Last year they were above .500. They have gotten better every year Collins has played. It's hard to accomplish as a one man show (Union). When Hayes moved up with another freshman playing quality minutes, they are now undefeated. Bball_Fan 1 Quote
CriticalNoise Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Who gets it? Ean Hayes Who deserves it? Kam Bostic Quote

Idk where Kam Bostic even came into the picture, maybe daddy revolving the whole game around him. Ean has scored against everyone even when the whole time the central offense was centered around ethan. SwvaOG 1 Quote
Observer Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 This has always been a question when it comes to these awards. Some people think it should go to the best player on the best team. Others think it should go to the player whose team wouldn't be where they are without them. In this case I think Hayes is both. IMO Central would not have gone undefeated through the district without him. Quote
Elder statesman Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I don't have a dog in this fight, but I would give it to Hayes as well. I think Bostic is probably the number 2. I have watched 5-6 Central games, and Collins doesn't impress me at all. No matter what people think about his dad, he's a great player. He really has nobody to help him other than Bunch (who I think played kind of lost this season). If anything, I think Bostic tries too hard to involve the football players in the offense which costs the team scoring opportunities. Quote

Bostic is a 1 man show on that team for the most part, to finish where they did with the wins that they did, says a lot about Kam. he does it all. Literally. Unchained 1 Quote

Oopsie Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 Like I said earlier in the year, Hayes is the best player in southwest Va. He is ahead of where Mac Mc Clung was as a freshman ! If he just concentrates on just basketball , stays off the football field and injury possibility , he will be a for sure D1 prospect ! When Boggs put him on Bostic, he shut him down ! I don’t think there is anyone in area that can stop him, jumps out of the gym, quick as a cat, and shooting range out there ! Focus on basketball Ian, gonna be enjoyable 3 more years to watch ! Doesn't Bostic play in the same distric as Collins? Hayes, Collins and Bostic are all good players, just think Hayes is better. Quote

I’m BSG thru and thru and I loathe anything Central, esp in boys sports, but trying to argue Kam, who’s a very good player, is a better player than Hayes is being disingenuous. Bballinsider Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 I have no horse in this race but I have watched Central vs Virginia High this year and Collins posted a triple double. In my years watching high school basketball in this area, triple doubles are pretty rare, especially against a team like Virginia high. Hayes, Collins, Bostic have all played the same competition this year in the same district so how does that have any impact on the decision. If I am not mistaken, Collins recently just became Central's All time scoring leader passing mcamis. I am not understanding how he could not be worthy of winning district poy. Hayes is a great player, Central went undefeated in their district play, it has to either be collins or hayes, and I would give it to the senior over the freshman Quote
Gridiron60 Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 I think if things are basically equal (and I don’t know if they are just speaking in generalities), I would defer to Senior for POY. Also, in the grand scheme of things, these awards don’t mean much. Quote
BigWinners Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 It’ll be the senior and probably rightfully so. Hayes will have his chance to bring home a few more in the years ahead. Quote
Hokiebird7 Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 Should go to best player no matter what grade this person is in....and as someone said these awards don't mean much if you care about how your team does Quote
VFL62 Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 I am biased because I am a Lee guy but I personally think Pendergraft should be in the conversation. Now I do think that Hayes should be the winner but I also think Pendergraft does not get much credit. According to the BHC he is averaging the most points a game with 22 I believe and 7 rebounds per game and also 3 or 4 assists. He stepped up big against union and gate City when they beat them at home. Earlier in the year when they beat abingdon at home they were down going into the fourth quarter and he had 17 in the 4th and finished with 30. He is also the all time leading scorer for boys at Lee. I know their record is not great but the kid should definitely be in the mix. I think they will likely give it to Collins but like I said Hayes should probably be the winner. volunteer 1 Quote

Pendergraft is definitely a great player. If you take him off that team they definitely struggle to get wins. Unfortunately you don't see too many POY from the 4th place team. Quote

Dishman from Castlewood last year led all swva players with almost 30 ppg and was definitely not the most impressive player in our area. Solid players on bad teams look far better than they actually are Quote
