Markelle Ray -1st Team All-State 

I haven’t seen the official list of all players but I’m presuming one of John Marshall’s players was Class 2A POY. Hopefully, some other SWD & M7 players were recognized.

Congratulations to Ethan Collins & Kam Bostic. Glad to see Region D had some others recognized! I feel like the Hayes kid should have at least got 2nd team but I realize they only have so many slots. I’m sure they’ll be lots of accolades in his future.

Congrats to my guy Kelle!!! He's definitely in my top 3-5 point guards to wear the Graham uniform.

What was the kids name that played pg for Graham around '95? For some reason Jeff is coming to mind for me but that may be totally wrong.

Jeff Lynch, he was a one man press on the '97-'98 team. He only played for us one year which was his senior year.

They had a great team that year but lost to Gate City in Regionals.

I knew they didn’t go all the way but was thinking maybe undefeated in district. Those dang Blue Devils. 😂

I'm pretty sure they went undefeated in district play. They won 20+ games that year. J. Lynch, C. Bradshaw, J. Gibson, J. Hypes, R. Rose, M. Mullins etc..

Troy Henderson from John Marshall just committed to Tennessee basketball and coach Rick Barnes. Tennessee offered him a scholarship yesterday!

Amy idea where the other Team Loaded seniors have signed to go? Hopefully, Henderson has a good career with Tennessee. He’ll have some big shoes to fill. Rick Barnes is a good coach though and will help Henderson further develop as an elite player.

Henderson will be a point guard for UT, so he will taking Ziegler's spot in time, those are big "little" shoes to fill! I didn't put two and two together when I first starting reading the article until it was mentioned that he was a VHSL all state selection! If I hear of the others I will let you know!

I hope he has a great career at TN.  I do believe though whenever TN plays their last game this season, Barnes retires.

That will be a huge loss to the program. I hope they find someone of high quality to replace him.

M7 girls is the gold standard at this point & has been for several years.

How did Trivette get player of the year when her team finished 4th in a 2A district and they lost in the first round of regions? I think she is a great player but her team was not very successful this year.

She was POY last year as a sophomore and statistically had better numbers this season.  Although I was surprised that she got it rather than the girl from Botetourt, it was deserved.  The team was inconsistent this season with big games against powerhouses but losing to weaker teams.  Losing Seymore inside hurt and they couldn't replace that physical play.  They were only 6-7 deep at most but they still beat state champion GW in preseason and regular season fairly easy, beat Wise twice, lost a close game to Ridgeview on a night they shot lights out from 25ft+ (14 threes), lost by single digits once to Botetourt (3A state champs) and lost by 7 to William Fleming (5A runner up).  They lost to Gate City twice because of coach's game management.  Blew a 15 pt lead with 4 minutes left when he subbed out 3 starters including Trivette because he got mad at her.  The M7 has been the toughest girls' basketball district in the state since its inception.  No other district consistently has multiple region and state contenders.  Next season may be the weakest it will be because every team loses the bulk of their talent.  If Trivette stays, Abingdon should be at the top.  Union has the most players coming back.  Central will have Moore and the other young players moving up.  Ridgeview, Battle, Gate City, and Lee will all struggle unless we see transfers.

Central will have Moore and whatever transfer they bring in.  There is already talks of phone calls being made to some players in the area
