I've heard she quit the team. Can anyone confirm this? Ive looked at their past 4 or 5 games and shes not in the stats anywhere. And theyve been dropping several of their last few games. I've heard a couple different reasons if true but don't care to repeat them here as I dont know the story, and doesnt really matter to me. But I was looking forward to our girls facing her. Wouldve been great for our kids

Heard that the coaches wanted to rest her and pulled her from the lineup last week and she got mad and quit.

Actually heard the opposite, heard she pitched a double header and asked to be taken out the 2nd game and they said no so she said I'm out

I heard similar to what swvavol said.  She didnt pitch in the East TN Classic I don't believe last weekend.  Beat Battle early last week and then I don't believe was in the lineup any after that.  I could be wrong and its all hearsay at this point.

They haven't played a double header, so I question that info.  She pitched against Sullivan East on 3/15 and hasn't been in the lineup since.  And that was a run rule game against Sullivan East where she only threw 65 pitches.

I don't have a clue if she's still on the team i don't even know who she is, but the east game was on 3/20 where she pitched a no hitter and hit 2 homers, the next day would be the double header with Wopi bristol radio tweeting it's against West Ridge and Dobyns Bennett, but coacht is the TN website and it's showing the double header was against John Battle and Dobyns Bennett which they lost both

Sorry, I meant 3/20.  Was doing two things at once and didn't proofread lol.  The next day was the start of the East TN Classic, and she didn't play in either game on 3/21.  The last game she played was 3/20.  The rumor is that she was told they wanted to rest her and didn't put her in the lineup on 3/21, so she got pissed and left the team.

Any clue which is correct? Either way, quitting seems extreme. What will she do in college? I highly doubt any colleges pitch the same pitcher every game. Has she already signed to play?

That almost always starts with the parents and then trickles down to their kids.

I have coached since my kids have been old enough to play and parents are almost always the issue.  Everyone thinks their kid is a superstar and ultimately don't care about team success as long as their kid gets theirs.

You are probably right but it may also be other parents from the team.  I don't know this situation that well, but I have seen transfers come in and take spots from local players which causes those parents to raise issues with the coaching staff and administration.  It puts the coaches in a tough spot.  Again, just speculation here, maybe they benched Compton for a hometown player (which is unfair).  Many factors could cause a situation like this.

I really don't know her situation but I wish her the best, however Tennessee did pass a one time transfer rule that a person can transfer anytime during the school year and play immediately. Now it can't be for athletic purposes only, the bylaw verbiage is it has to be academic, social-emotional, environmental or mental issues so she can say the coach beat her down mentally or she's just trying to get away from a boyfriend, that rule just passed like a month or so ago in TN, my guess it doesn't take effect until next school year but she could use some ex post facto powers and transfer and play today at sed school if she chooses

Not a good look if she has quit the team.  Most kids these days have no respect for coaches and their decisions.

Wonder where that starts at? Hmmmmmm

She sounds like a spoiled brat

Well i think its a legit reason if she was sore and wanted to sit out to heal but coach didnt agree ..and maybe punishing her for wanting some rest. But who knows the true story. I just hate she quit. Dont wanna speculate any further as I don't know wat really happened

Got some clarification on my previous statement of pitching DH and being taken out. She had pitched either two days in a row of the Kingsport tournament or both games in one day, so dad told the coach she needed a break and he wanted her to not pitch the next game/day. Coaches took her out of the lineup completely and didn't let her play at all so Dad got mad and she just quit all together.

Hmmm.....a responsible request followed by a questionable reaction followed by an unreasonable response.  I have to think this wasn't an isolated incident....if it was, that's a bad response by the parents.  Everyone jumps the gun on this.  What if she had arm fatigue and didn't want to tell the coach out of trying to "tough it out" and dad stepped in?

Man, there are so many layers to this.  Everyone wants to blame the parents but it is the parents job to help guide their kids.  Here are a few things that coaches did that I considered very questionable but opted to stay out of it.  You tell me if the coach was in the right:

  • With very little practice time (about 7-10 days) and zero pre-season workouts, a varsity baseball coach decided it was a good idea to pitch my oldest son for 110 pitches in 40 degree weather in an opening game after pitching two days earlier in a scrimmage.  He throw over 50 pitches in the scrimmage.
  • Same son took a hard fall and hit his head against the turf out of bounds on a pass play during a football game.  He was squirming all around and the HC never went to check on him.  He went back in the game and after the game his teammate told me "I was worried about him....when I got to him his eyes were rolled back in his head."  I was told they did a concussion test on him but after watching the game tape.....I never saw one administered.
  • My senior year I received a severe concussion in a football game.  I had to leave the game....didn't know any of the plays, who I was and did not recognize people...had no idea where I was at and was completely out of it for almost three hours.  I was taken to the hospital after the game and after the bus ride home. I was at practice on Monday and the only pre-caution the following week was that I would only play defense and return punts and kicks and forego playing offense.

Now, there are waaaay more stories about obstructionist parents, for sure and that is trending up.  But, I just wanted to share a different perspective.

Seems like if Dad is the expert he should be coaching a team instead of coaching from the stands.

She pitched two days in a row prior to the tournament, and her dad said he didn't want her to pitch the next day and rest.  So the coach didn't put her in the lineup Friday.  She didn't show up Saturday and quit Monday.

I tend to agree with SWVAOG, about not being an isolated incident. (I don’t know anything about it.) Typically, when things like this happen there is often a pattern of behaviors between parties that lead to the relationship being broken. The single incident is often the last straw whether communicated or not.

If it were me, I would have done the same thing. She has already committed to UNC and she plays an extremely difficult travel schedule.  It's not worth risking your college career because your High School Coach values a win over a kids well being.  I trust that decision in this case.  There is nobody in this area that has worked harder at her sport then this young lady.
