I believe you are correct, however, I think there was a lot of politics involved in that situation.  I think he left for a year or so and was at Auburn HS before returning to Bland and played a big part of getting Harris Hart back to Bland and was a body in the building trying to get kids out for football; basically brining back a dead or almost dead program.  Defiantly and interesting hire by Galax, but Reed seems to have helped rebuild Bland and now he might be on the same path at Galax.  It will be interesting now to see what happens at Bland once he is gone.  Will Bland continue to grow and sustain or will it drop off once he leaves, while Hart is still presumed to be the head coach at Bland I believe he has retired from teaching and is no longer in the building each day which is key at small school especially during a rebuild.  Guess we will see how it goes at each program.

I absolutely agree that having the head coach in the building is so important at small schools. If not there had better be some dang good assistants in the building recruiting kids. I know one small where the head coach is not in the building and doesn't run the offense of defense and the program struggles mightily despite playing the easiest schedule possible. People wonder what he does do other than give a speech at the end of practice. Everyone knows its a very political situation where being good friends with the superintendent and principal goes a long way.

Galax fell off the planet awful fast. Amazing what a coach leaving or a new coach being hired can do to a program.

But the same coach that took them to 3 state championship games and won the last one went 0-8.. nothing changed

Galax issues are internal and they've had issues off the field effecting the program on the field. Galax has done a great job at keeping it under wraps. Last year had everything to do with fist fights, injuries, arrests, and even things slightly worse that the first 3 I listed.

This is the correct answer.

No offense to Allen, but he benefited greatly from what Dixon and his staff had built at Galax.

Coach Allen benefited from the amount of time and effort he put into that program.  Dixon benefited from Coach Allen as well, it was his defense that Coach Dixon ran the last few years that he coached and made several state finals.  The state championship team from '23 was not the best 1A school in the state, but he was the one who game planned and made those kids believe they had a shot.

You can say what you want to about "issues" surrounding the program, but Coach Allen did a heck of a job during his tenure as the head coach at Galax.
