Tough 4-3 loss for Battle.  Bags packed with 2 outs and the RF for KW rifled one home to keep the runner at 3B.  K ends it.

Auburn and Fort Chiswell in the Class 1 State Title Game tomorrow.  Appo and King William in the Class 2 Title Game tomorrow.  Fort Chiswell is not a surprise.  They are one heck of a baseball team.

Battle lost in a heartbreaker and there  was a key sequence in the game that played a major outcome and it was unfortunate.  Rector the SS was batting in 5th with 1 out and bases loaded and was hit by an inside pitch . The batter actually turned away from the pitch and it hit the elbow guard on an inside pitch .  The ump did not award him first base even after Gobble questioned it.    The ump took over there and did not award him first base and made him continue batting.  Result was an inning ending crucial ground ball double play.

Battle was literally a Right Fielders throw away from Tying  the ballgame up in the 7th with 2 outs. A great throw by the RF held the baserunner at 3rd on a bloop single. Next batter strikes out to end game

Great season by Battle.  If they would have squeezed that one out feel they would have ran away with the championship. They will be back next year with a deep squad

Me as well!!! Even the Abingdons semis were horrendous. I have never seen that bad of calls in the state tournament

It surprises me that 3A gets a shaft on facilities for the Final Four.  I wanted to watch that game but got busy and wasnt able to.   Only watched Eastside/Auburn.

Eastside put a 4 spot on the board in the 2nd.  The eastern side of the state is lacking in 1A softball.  Eastside/Auburn should be a good game tomorrow.  Eastside with elite pitching and Auburn with a top notch offense.  3 of the 4 teams in the state were in the Cumberland this year I believe. 7 of the top 10 were in Region D.  Possibly more.

As the old saying goes, great pitching beats great hitting.  That isn't always the case but it isn't uncommon.  Hall was masterful for the Spartans in the state playoffs.  She showed she is the best pitcher in SWVA and it wasn't a big surprise to see teams struggle when she is on, that aren't familiar with her. Threw a perfect game in the semis and wasn't far off in the finals.
