Current Status: Closed and Demolished

Opened 1940s

Hint: The original name, “A Successful Outcome Resulting in the Surpassing of One’s Opponents” Stadium, never really caught on.

Sorry, totally missed what this was. 🤦‍♂️I’ll go back & delete responses. 😂 It was late & I was just excited to get some of them first.

LOL, No problem my friend!

One my favorite stadium "pics"

-Withers Field (AKA Evansham and Athletic Field)

-The middle two buildings were demolished, while the ones on the the left and right are still in use.

-The limestone outfield wall, built by CWA in 1934, is still there

-The names Wytheville High/Wythe High were used until "George Wythe" opened in its current building in 1951

-Note the vintage multi-sport scoreboard with Wythe County Motors-Ford signage

Sadly the old brick grandstand was deemed structurally unsound and recently torn down.

Pic 1 (Sorry for the poor quality). Outside of the old grandstand (the green shed wasn't original). Note the arched entry way and the blue boards covering the windows.

Pic 3- The 1934 limestone outfield wall (still remains)

The one I missed is the one I originally got. SMH.....

I knew you'd answered it the first time, and I was dying to tell you when you said you had "no idea". I wanted to say, "Yes, you do. Reread the hint carefully, and you'll find the answer."

Hint: Some folks’ memories just (wither) away,

but we’re with has-beens who relive every play.

Anybody recognize this stadium?

Pics are from the 1980 Graham yearbook

I’m saying Northfork , only because I see the runner in that uniform but I’m sure that’s not correct. It has to be some school in the area of Tazewell/Mercer/McDowell most likely. Back in the day Bluefield Daily Telegraph held an invitational track meet but I’m sure that was probably at Mitchell Stadium but I could be wrong.
