A HOF would be great, but the hardest part is finding someone to take long-term ownership and responsibility of it (That's not me).

My two cents...If I were going to attempt this, I'd limit it to athletes and coaches. Every few years there's a thread about the all-time best coaches and players, "Mount Rushmores", etc., which typically ends with the usual people. It's just a matter of digging into the site's archives for initial slates of names.  It'd give a person a good list of candidates of who might be considered "first ballot" HOF worthy.  The initial classes could be larger to catch-up, considering football's been played here for 100+ years.

I think first classes should be D1/NFL guys first.  If you make that level, you’re one of the best around period.  Now was Ahmad Bradshaw as good as Thomas Jones in HS? Absolutely not. But they both played in the league and reached highest pinnacle. Coaches are easy. You can go ten years putting in two and not touch a recent coach.

There you go, stirring it up again...Those of us who saw Ahmad play in High School may disagree.  That young man did everything.  They didn't call him "Ahmad the Squad" for no reason.  He was at the time the only VHSL player in history who combined for 5000 Plus rushing yards and 1500 plus receiving yards. I'm not sure if that has been accomplished since, either.   He also punted, returned kicks, played defense.  He rarely left the field.

How many VHSL rushing records did Bradshaw break? Career yards? TDs? TJ would play some defense too if needed.  I’m not downing Bradshaw but I don’t believe many who watched them as runners in HS would say he was better.  TJ never caught passes, didn’t need to 😛

go watch the 1994 Norton PV game if it’s still on YouTube. It’s where TJ sets game record and Boo Sensebaugh from JIB went for 300 some. He played at ETSU himself maybe? I know he went somewhere.

I think anyone who plays college at a high level or in the NFL should be included to vote on.

Coaching wise, 150 plus wins, and at least a state championship should be the baseline, imo.

He may have been a better runner, but Bradshaw could do it all.   He could play linebacker, defensive end,  defensive back, he punted, played some at Quarterback when Belcher was hurt.  Returned kickoffs and punts.  He truly did it all.  There was no better overall player that I have seen on a football field.  He could knock you out with his hits on offense and defense...and did more then once.

My perception was always Thomas Jones was the best RB that I ever saw, and Bradshaw was the best player for the reasons each of you mentioned.

I don’t believe there’s a may have needed. TJ was the better running back. I can’t see how anyone could dispute that. All the other stuff may have made Ahmad more valuable to Graham but if we’re talking running backs, there’s a clear 1A in the discussion.

I mean there’s a reason TJ had offers from all these huge P5 schools and started for UVA and set 15 school records and eight ACC records and was a first team All-American and broke Tiki Barbers school record, 8th in Heisman voting, 10K NFL yards, accolades out the wazoo while Bradshaw had a good NFL career but got kicked out of UVA and had 4K NFL yards and was a 7th round pick as opposed to a top ten pick.  Again this is not a slight at Bradshaw. Incredible player. But despite not playing all over the field like Bradshaw, TJ still dominated every time he took the field. You can’t punish him bc PV didn’t need him to do all Graham needed Bradshaw to do.

Julius played defense and laid the wood, still the hardest hit I ever saw was him coming down on a Clintwood (I believe) WR, but even he wasn’t in his brothers class despite having more speed.

Anybody want to guess how many players from the SWVA Sports coverage area played in a regular season AFL/NFL game?

It’s a bigger number than most realize. I would say 38 but even that feels low. 60 wouldn’t shock me.

I agree with these minimums.

I have the information on the coaching records for the SWVA (VA) coaches, which I'll post as soon as I can find where I saved it. There's probably about 12 or so who'd meet the minimums.

The Va coaches would probably include: Harry Fry, Nick Colobro, Greg Mance, Tom Turner, Phil Robbins, Ralph Cummins, Glynn Carlock, Steve Ragsdale, Norm Lineburg, Joel Hicks, maybe Burrhead Bradley

Surprisingly Jim Riggs wouldn't have a win total that high

In the case of Riggs and coaches of those era, maybe adjust their win totals due to the fact that they didn't coach as many games.
