My reporter said Union looked pretty good against Elizabethton; scoring at least three touchdowns during the scrimmage. The sophomore running back will add to the veteran backfield. Union has some really big and experienced linemen.

The senior quarterback seemed really fast. Union has a deep team and plenty of players - 55 on varsity roster.

Hearing that Graham is dealing with some injuries of their own.

Just reiterating what everyone else has said, I am on the Lebanon train until they fall off of it. I think they are destined for something good this year. Might not beat the big boys, but this will be something that they can hang their hat on for years.

I think they’ll do better than some are suggesting but I guess we’ll see as the season progresses.

To who?   Lol

Just trying to get someone riled up but no one fell for it.  I think Lebanon will be tough. Hung with Graham in first game last year.  As stated Union and Graham are probably a little bigger, stronger and more seasoned in big games .  Still, hope you guys have a great season.

This is my thinking. I think as another poster said before, if they had won their appeal to be in Class 1, they’d be near the top.
Where you wind up classification wise can be huge at some schools.
They will be very good. Just hard to consistently compare with those big boys.

(I have no clue about the line and defensive positions, but quarterback, wide receiver, and running back/linebacker they compare favorably to anyone.)

Can the Leb OL keep Reese on his feet?

Hopefully Lebanon and put in a diverse package of roll-outs, play-action fakes, etc.....move the pocket and get the kid out on roll-outs, bootlegs.  This, along with a creative screen package, is how they can counter Union and Graham's aggressiveness.  You just can't let him live and die as a pocket passer.

I think most don’t pay attention to them because they are one of 2 Class 3 teams in our coverage area and no one has to go through them in the playoffs.

Yep, exactly.  I still wish they'd siphon off 150 kids to Holston and Patrick Henry and reclass as a true 2A school.  It would solve a shit load of logistical and sports sustainment problems for Washington County.

Put this QB on the ground a few times and he gets rattled. He can’t handle serious pressure.

Lebanon is a threat

What hurts Lebanon is their coach doesn't play any players both ways right? I heard that last year. Often your best players are solid on both sides of the ball, so while they load up offensively, the defense suffers.

Jessee and Baker and a couple others played both ways last year.  Reece doesn’t play both ways because his dad won’t let him-he would be a big asset on defense

I’m gonna respectfully disagree. Graham beat him up pretty good last year.  He got to see a lot of the night sky . But to his credit, he stood tough.

Kid is definitely a tough one. He got back up every time. I saw him throw a couple of great passes on one foot while being tackled. He’s talented.

I was thinking most of their defensive backfield played both ways (receivers) in addition to the 2 mentioned.

Yes, very tough kid.  Lebanon had Graham on the ropes for a good portion of that game.

I agree. That’s a bad take.

Lebanon is like George Wythe, Grayson, and Riverheads, they want to in a lower classification than what they are. So let them, but move them up when the playoffs start.

Except Lebanon and GWs enrolments have justified them playing in 1A, as where Riverheads numbers are manipulated and Grayson is circumventing the rules

I think the better way to state it is that if you put him on the ground and get him moving and flushed, he loses accuracy.  If he has time to stay back there he has a cannon with accuracy.  When we flushed him out and was throwing on the run last year he consistently overthrew his receivers.  Now he may have worked on that and do much better this year with that.

And they still scored 60 on tazewell last year. It was a loss but not much he can do when his defense, that was much worse than tazewells, also gives up 60

Kid from Lebanon is as good of a passer as Clark was here in Radford. I think he's dynamite. Lebanons problem is the same as VA High when they play a Graham, completely overwhelmed on the Line of Scrimmage. Same with Lebanon this year at Union. They will score some early on, but as the game goes on, the front 5 of Union on O and front 4 on D will overwhelm Lebanon up front and take the game over. Happens with Graham and Va High for the last few decades. Lebanon's problem isnt lack of athletes. They got them. It's lineplay.

The QB for Lebanon is incredible, but is running for his life, finds himself behind by 14 points as their OL is overwhelmed, and he just tries to make something happen. With a line like Union or Graham, he would put up video game numbers.

I think you nailed it exactly, by the second half graham line has already completely wore Lebanon‘s line out and then when you have a Qb that tries to drop back for bombs, they do not have the time to throw them. That was Glenvar‘s problem the kid from Glenvar always wanted to drop back and wait for it to throw a bomb and Graham sacked him so many times in the second half  along with the interceptions.   Lebanon Short passes against Graham. Last year were very effective. Until the line  took over.
