Pioneer Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 This might be the earliest game in Virginia, this season. Richlands is going have a hard time containing Virginia High's speed. Expect Graham to have a big game through the air, and Laws to break some big runs. Virginia High 49 Richlands 14 What are your thoughts on this one? Quote

Richlands has some weapons. 42-35 VHS Virginia High has talent, they are going to turn some heads. They will be more dynamic on offense. Previous synopsis of the Richlands scrimmage indicated that they had a difficult time protecting the QB and VHS picked off 2 Sullivan East passes the other night, one for a TD. They also said Richlands secondary struggled. Virginia High lost Smith, but they are going to be more wide open with receivers such as Rowe and Poole. Also, Graham can beat you with his legs. The Laws kid will be the breakout RB this year. He scored 3 times against east, he had over 100 years rushing and close to 50 receiving. One run was 71 yards. If Richlands O line can't protect the qb it will be a long night. Quote
Widespread_Panic Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 I think Richland's spread offense plays right into Va High's speed advantage. If Richlands was more of a run heavy team I think they could keep it close for a while but I've got the Bearcats winning this one. Quote
Gridiron60 Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 I think VH wins but Richlands performs much better than the past couple years. I feel like they’re getting things straightened out & may surprise some folks this season. Quote
UnionGuy2017 Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 I think it will be close until the 3rd and then Va High will pull away.. something like 48-20 Quote
CzarYakov Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 Richlands will put up a fight until the numbers catch up with them. Especially on the front five. I look for Richlands to win a surprise one this year, but not this one. Virginia High 35 to 14. Quote
Real Sasquatch Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 It'll be good to see some football, I don't know enough about either team, but I plan on watching. Quote

Iceman2553 Posted August 19, 2025 Report Posted August 19, 2025 I think Richlands can surprise a few teams this season, they are trending in the right direction with the program but I still think VHigh has the more explosive offense and like mentioned above the numbers will be the weak point. 45-20 VHigh Gridiron60 1 Quote
CzarYakov Posted August 20, 2025 Report Posted August 20, 2025 Some sad noises I overheard on the Blues coach talk radio show for anyone who wants to watch on NFHS. Apparently, they never came to replace the equipment or something along those lines (if I heard right) and there will be no Richlands NFHS this year. Quote

BigWinners Posted August 21, 2025 Report Posted August 21, 2025 If this is close, Richlands is much improved and VHS will have more trouble in the SWD than expected. Seems like VHS should have way more weapons and be way further ahead in execution. But it’s August and it’s 15-18 year olds no one knows much til Halloween. Id be interested in someone to figure how what league has been better over the past 10-15 years. Seems like the M7 has had 3-4 teams as good as second best SWD but this year and some others, the SWD could have 4-5 out of the top six teams in 2D. It’s like Wise and RV have had some great talent come thru and now it’s cycling over for the VHS and Lebanons. And when you account for Graham, the best program in 2A since Appomattox, the SWD could be the superior league. It goes in cycles, the M7 can get there and have the best teams but the top of the M7 hasn’t been able to do what Graham has done. side note not to highjack this thread, but what’s VHS enrollment and RHS enrollment as opposed to ten years ago? If the cycle continues, will we just have 5-6 3A teams in the entire SWVA area? Impressive Graham can do what they’ve done but they can pull from a good sized metro area. Quote
SXSW Posted August 21, 2025 Report Posted August 21, 2025 Way to many athletes for Richlands to contain. Patterson is a very, very good coach! Cats 41-Blues 21 Jags52 1 Quote
SwvaOG Posted August 21, 2025 Report Posted August 21, 2025 No program put more time in this past spring and summer than Richlands. They were all over doing 7v7’s and they put the time in the gym. I drove by Ernie twice ( I don’t get over that way very often) and both times they were out working early in the morning. I feel like they have squeezed an extra half a season in and closed the gap on some other teams. That being said….I’m not sure it’s enough to catch VHS. Richlands is like a torn ACL….it has definitely been physically healed and strengthened but are they right mentally and emotionally. Do they trust it? Or will a couple of bad events in a game defeat them and put doubt in their minds? The contrarian in me wants to go RHS….if there was a spread, I’d take the Blues to cover. Ahhh, what the hell…it’s early in the season. I’ll take a gamble. RHS-28 VHS-27 tornado99, frito gonzales and Gridiron60 3 Quote

NFHS isn't for the locals who should support in person. I was at the Blues games for many years. Faithfully driving a good distance. That isn't an option now. Too many years in my rearview mirror. Even then, I would be frustrated because a lot of the "fans" were there to visit and talk amongst themselves. The team would have to turn toward the stands and wave their arms to get the fans to cheer. These last few years I would have the game on NFHS watching the Blues and listening to the Loris games online. If this is the case, I will tune in tonight to listen to Ron, Edythe Ann, Brent and Ben as they bring the game. They are the pinnacle of radio broadcasting IMHO. GO BLUES!!!! Quote

The magic at Ernie Hicks Stadium is in the water that doesn't drain from the track after a storm. The kids have to be brave enough to drink from it though. bucfan64, Gridiron60, VHSLhelper and 2 others 1 4 Quote
