Jefferson Forest, Brookeville and Heritage seemed like perennial contenders in addition to Amherst and Heritage. A lot of different factors -- including some pretty poor leadership in key roles -- really snowballed to bring the program down. But many of those are being addressed. The fact that the Seminole is such a really challenging district is a big part of the problem -- and there is a vocal (and apparently influential) element within the LHS community that takes pride in "playing up." That works okay in pretty much every sport other than football. But whereas Graham was able to do that for many years back in the old SWD/VHSL alignment, Liberty hasn't been able to draw (or in many cases retain) the level of talent to stay competitive. Also, the addition of LCA to the district added a further degree of difficulty when the "transfer portal" was already alive and well. There are a lot of things working against Liberty -- many of which are self inflicted -- but hopefully some of those are starting to get sorted. tornado99 and Liam McPoyle 2 Quote

Can't run, pass, play defense, sustain a drive, block, hell they can't even punt. Terribly undisciplined and gave them a 1st down any time they used a hard count. Definitely looked different than the past 4-5 years. Never got completely embarrassed by Blacksburg during that time frame either. But...maybe Blacksburg is vastly improved? IDK Giles will be lucky to win 2 games imo. Blacksburg has not improved that much, Giles is just very bad that is all. Blacksburg is bottom tier 4A and won 4 games last year. Quote
