PLEASE DO USE: Stats, Records, Big-game performances, Awards (e.g. POY, All-Region/State), Highlight Clips to make your case

PLEASE DON'T USE: Hyperbole

Rank combos based on personal opinion. Use facts to strengthen your case if you like.

There are many great ones, but here's a few off the top of my head to get started...PLEASE ADD ANY COMBO YOU WISH

Honaker's Peyton Musick and Avery Musick

Lebanon's Michael Reece and Toby Baker

Richlands' Justin McCracken and Austin Fuller

Richlands' John Luke Asbury and Scottie Ball

Ridgeview's Ryan O'Quinn and Brandon Beavers

Tazewell's Carter Creasy and Cassius Harris

Suggested Combos

Powell Valley's Andy Robbins and Robbie Duncan

Radford’s Landon Clark and Max Knipe

Graham's Cam Allen and Devin Lester

Richlands' John Luke Asbury and Codie Howie

It’s really hard to find stats on some of the older duos.

In recent years O’Quinn to Beavers was the best I would say. That duo was only ever slowed down by their own coaching. Maybe someone can add in the stats there.

Honaker needs a shout, both Musick to Musick and now Lowe to Musick are dangerous combos. Reese with anyone at Lebanon, but Baker seems like his go to, is that the right WR? I could be getting names wrong.

Could be a host of receivers but John-Luke Asbury was the QB that I dreaded for us to play the most. I thought he was excellent. Scottie Ball of course, Austin Atkinson too maybe? Richlands had several good receivers there.

Codie Howie and Chace Collins was also on that roster with JLA. As a matter of fact, I am pretty certain Howie led the Blues in receiving and not Scottie Ball.

Howie is the one I was trying to think of. Thanks. Collin’s was a good RB too. He killed us out of the backfield, but I would argue JLA was the catalyst to that offense.

I’m partial to McCracken-Fuller and company because of the championship.
However, if it’s a duo, based on production, I go Creasy and Harris.

As far as the group with JLA is concerned, he and most of the others benefitted more because of the combination of talent. Collins was primarily a slot receiver before the brief stint at running back. Howie and Ball created matchup problems by both being on the field together. Had Howie not been ejected against Stuarts Draft, the Appomattox championship may not have been so one sided. The best DB covers ball and Appomattox’s better athletes elsewhere take over.

I’m giving a shout out to Heath Miller as best Quarterback.
Before the pass happy offenses, schemes, and training camps of today, Miller won a lot of games mostly himself. These listed had one or multiple talented receivers. Can anyone outside Honaker name his leading receiver and did they have over 1000 yards?

1 Tazewell, 1986. Jessee Davis to Kevin Hicks. Davis is still the most talented HS QB in SWVA I've ever seen. If he would have had his head on straight, could have flirted with Sunday football. The Creasy kid from Tazewell was special and set records, but no disrespect, he wasn't even on the same planet in talent and ability as Davis.

2. Clark to Knipe.

3. O'Quinn to Beavers

There was a wide receiver that played for the Green Bay packers named Carrol Dale and he played for J J Kelley don’t know who the Quarterback was back then but from 1954 to 1956 J J Kelley had only 1 tie and 0 losses.  I’m taking a guess that they had a great passing attack back then.

Similar to the famous Carrol Dale, an all time Packer great, Gary Clark of the Redskins, HOF, former Pulaski County Cougar, but PC was mostly run oriented back then.

You're right...I completely forgot about Codie Howie. I'll add JLA-Howie.

Well, I’ll recuse myself from an actual vote for nepotistic reasons but I’ll leave you with a few stats: Beavers caught 138 passes and dropped two balls in four years for a >98% catch rate, averaged over 20 yards a catch over four years and had a ridiculous contested catch rate.  Those are what I’m most proud of. Not so proud of…lazy blocking after his sophomore year and running some sloppy routes.
It should be noted that Harris and Beavers had to deal with very good defensive backs in their period: Bradshaw (VT/Marshall), Jenkins (W&M), Ethan Mullins (3x All State DB), Bishop from Abingdon (VMI) Carter from Abingdon (3A All VHSL), each other (both played college ball), Watkins from Graham (E&H), Counts from RV (Bluefield) and I’m sure I missed a few. In a topic such as this….opposition has to be taken into account.
