So last night I was told that our band has stopped playing the National Anthem until this country gets better. I sincerely hope that this is not the case. If you know me at all, you know that I am a staunch supporter of the band. I make a point to always go to the band concessions and I always bring extra money to donate to the band. This absolutely will stop if this is the case. I am not one to just emotionally jump to conclusions so I’m attempting to find out if this is indeed the case. I'm not posting to get political. Everyone has a right to vote as we please, but there's been too many good men and women shed their blood defending that flag.

Did they play the National Anthem on Thursday night before the game? If so, then I’d think it’s an unfounded rumor. If not, then that would be unfortunate.

I wasn't at the park Thursday because of a work commitment, and to be honest with these big games we've played lately I can't recall, but I do not remember removing my hat for it lately. I will certainly be paying attention Saturday though.

If true and again, a huge IF.....IF true, its important to remember it's not the kids or the "entire band." Its the person who runs/directs that band (who would be a paid adult) and the Supervisor of the person who runs the band (another paid adult).

Yeah I am glad that was a false rumor. I looked around and saw that the Union band was in the Veterans Day parade.

It's sad that in this modern culture that one even has to wonder:(. I'll not get political, but I will say that you NEVER had to even question this until now:(

I question literally everything I see now on the Internet thanks to AI. The line between reality and fiction has never been more blurred…sorry sort of off topic but AI stuff is out of control.

I remember an opening game of the year (just not which year) against Haysi in Bullitt Park where the band shouldn't have played it. PV had a new band director, and they sounded like the Mayberry Town Band with a hammered Otis Campbell on trumpet. There were several people laughing and a lot of faces with a WTF? look on them as the band struggled to get through that.

It is extremely difficult to learn to play and instrument for band, plus again we have to remember these are just high-school kids not professionals. When my daughter played trumpet for Graham I know they went to camp for 2 weeks just for formations not counting all of the hours of practice learing just the music for the instrument. Again it is not easy and I doubt many in the stands could do much better, so over all let's give them a hand for what they do.

BINGO! My youngest played baritone and it was a wakeup call for me. So much work and precision required. The impressive thing at Union this year is our band has TWO seniors. 80% of them are middle schoolers, yet at every competition this season they earned the rating of superior. I am fiercely proud of the kids as well as Kim, Rashida and the staff there.

Absolutely. Our daughter was a section leader for four years, All County for 4 years, All Western District three years and All State for 2 years. The band kids work hard. That doesn't change the fact that the PV band butchered the national anthem beyond recognition that night, and THAT , is on the band director, who IIRC, left after one year.

BTW, I heard from a source who said that the Union band has indeed eschewed the national anthem this year for the NFL Sunday Night Anthem, and as been playing it all year before the games, but people are just now catching on.

The Union band is fantastic. Our oldest plays the baritone sax, she loves it. They will only improve, as stated they’re very young and are already doing so great.  The show this year is awesome too, I like it better than last year’s. I believe they will be performing their competition show at halftime this week but I’m not 100%.
