Rye Cove / Eastside Rivalry and other Rivalry's

Been seeing some stuff on Social media.  Seems like it may be the hottest rivalry in SWVA currently.  The fan base seem to be really going after each other.  Ive seen stuff from other schools happy Rye cove lost too so not just Eastside.    What would y'all rank as your Top 5 or 10 Rivalry's currently in SWVA? Can also do historically

I’ve seen a lot of nastiness on social media from Eastside and Grayson County folks directed at Rye Cove and happy they were defeated in Salem. I think some folks are just sore losers. At the end of the day, the players are just teenage boys wanting to win acting better than the adults. 

As far as rivalries, I think Union/Richlands used to be one but that’s transitioned into Union/Graham. Lebanon/Honaker, Richlands/Tazewell, George Wythe/Fort Chiswell , Salem/Glenvar

Schools can have more than one rival. I’d say Union/Central , Union/Graham, Union/Ridgeview. Some rivalries are based on respect others on hate. 😂😂😂😂

I Think most of the rye cove hate is mainly because the horns and adults.  The games I've seen the kids all seemed like good sports. 

 

  When gate city and powell valley was both good that was a fun one to watch.

I think you’re right. Most of the hateful comments I’ve seen reference the noise & horns. Eastside & Grayson need to match that energy. Bring your own horns & noise. That’s what opposing teams have learned playing at Bullitt Park.  If you can’t beat them, join them figuratively and literally speaking.

It was funny talking to a friend who coaches other sports at Eastside postgame. Their PA mentioned the horns multiple times but their own folks was cussing the PA man and then blowing their horns according to him.

Old school id say PV/Apalachia was big. In the late 2000’s Burton and Clintwood became big. I’d say in 2D Union/rv is underrated.

People have a hard time respecting the boundaries of a rivalry and still remaining civil for some reason.  Cheer and yell for your team.  I may not cheer for a rival, but I won't root against them either.

Union/Clintwood were an immediate rival for the 3 years prior to Ridgeview, but Richlands was THE rival for Union until 2021 or so. Graham, without a doubt, took over as rival #1 for the Bears. Ridgeview is a solid #2, and I'm not sure there's really a #3.

Central can't stand Union, and they may see it as a rivalry, but I don't think the Bear fans see it that way. GC could become one if their seasons become more consistent.

As far as a heated/hatred rivalry goes, it would be hard to beat Appy/PV back in the day. Some crazy stuff went on between those two.

Since some places don’t enforce it and VHSL when contacted said it’s up to the administration of the home team to enforce it, banning them is kind of a moot point. That’s why I said bring your own noise to places that allow it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I dont remember what team I think it was Appalachia who had a player run thru the other team when they were coming thru the goal posts during a football game.  I saw it on YouTube.

I think that's why everybody just hates Wise in Football but never really considered them Rivals.  The not so often yrs they have a good team they act like this.  Then not good enough to be a rival for long.  

 

Who do y'all consider Coeburns biggest rival historically?

Ahhh memories. B.I had our boys walk through the posts because you NEVER were allowed to disrespect the Dawgs like that. Unfortunately, Appy was bad and JJK won 62-6 and would have been worse had he not received orders from headquarters to ease up.

Appalachia-PV has to be one of the greatest. State Title contenders or just trying to win the LPD. On a smaller scale SP-Castlewood would rival Eastside and RC easily

Coeburn people despise JJ Kelly, and for several seasons they duked it our for who could get 1 LPD win that season

There was nothing wrong with how they acted that night. Appy had an intimidation thing for years that you don't walk between the posts and JJK that night made the statement. Appy walked right into this with bad intentions, yet folks always seem to blame Wise over this incident.

Actually, they didn't lol 62-6 and if you look at the top right of the screen, that poor fellow from Appy was getting his lunch taken from him lol. I know Appy got Wise a lot of times, but not that night.
