ShaneFalco113 Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 John Battle with a statement win tonight on Battle Hill against the mighty Wise Central Warriors. A back and forth game with Battle being down 9 at the half. Came out of the locker room blazing. The Senior #23 for Battle can knock a shot down from anywhere on the floor and tool it to Wise in the paint all night and at the tip of the key. #10 is an emerging star and outshined the two high profile key guards for Wise Central all night. Big time program win for JSB and it might be the first time Battle has beaten Wise Central in like 8 years. MT 7 with a little mixup of the narrative tonight dealt by the mighty Trojans Quote
volunteer Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Sometimes a new coach can take all the fun out of the game. Seems like what has happened here. It was definitely not broken so don't fix it. Higher ups and the Central girls team had other plans. Central is maybe 4th in the M7, with potential. Missing some scoring and leadership from last year has hurt them this year, you don't realize what you have til it's gone. Union, Gate City both look like better teams right now, especially if Union can quit hurting themselves in games. Bball_Fan and Observer 2 Quote

I think he is finding that out quickly. I have watched most of their games and they don't seem to have any continuity. Quote

It's Wise, so that answers that. I agree 1A is no match for 2A. BigWinners and Bball_Fan 2 Quote

Yes, Damron is a good coach, but if he didn't have a daughter who is a good basketball player, he would still be at Eastside Quote
Gridiron60 Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Congrats to Battle! Great win! M7 gets more interesting each game. Quote
Bballinsider Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Central is getting exactly what they asked for. Getting rid of a coach who won the district and went undefeated in the M7 last year to propel playing time for some that didn't step foot on the court last year and to help boost the girls team (which isn't looking like it is helping) Central boys really look like they are missing that senior class from last year and the M7 poy. Stelley Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Did they officially run Boggs off? I knew that his son graduated and thought that may had something to do with it. Quote

Dotson needed to replace McAmis and Jordan after losing them to graduation. Once Gillenwater and Ross from Twin Springs turned him down, he turned to Damron. Boggs was the collateral damage of that. ShaneFalco113 Posted January 8 Author Report Posted January 8 Battle boys do it again and beat a sharp shooting Tazewell team 66-61. JSB was up big with 4 plus left and both teams started subbing which allowed a closer score. This 2026 JSB team is balanced and playing tough competitive basketball. They have a good mixture of kids that can score inside and out alongside r high level defensive pressure. It’s evident they play well with each other sharing the ball and are coached up. Backend schedule of games in the Mountain 7 is going to be very interesting as head into wrapping up conference play. Quote

They matched up well with central but I’m curious to see how they match up with Union and Gate city. They’re going to have to shoot the three well against Union because they won’t be getting easy points in the paint, mainly due to the fact that Union is entirely too physical, they foul more than any other team I’ve seen this year. All for being physical on defense but they need to get in their heads it’s not football now. Quote

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Battle and Gate City end up 1st and 2nd in the district at the end of the season. Neither team plays with an agenda for certain players to have to get theirs, while Union and Central obviously do. volunteer 1 Quote

I’ll agree with you on Union but for central they don’t have a lot of help for Hayes and Horne. Their big guy is solid inside and for rebounding but outside of him they don’t have a lot of guys that can produce Bball_Fan 1 Quote

It is good to see Battle winning games. I think they play hard for their coach and they don't show boat or complain when things aren't going their way. I would like to see Union's coaching staff enforce consequences for the behavior of their players. Leading the district in technical fouls should be embarrassing for the school. Gridiron60 1 Quote
