Unchained Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Down by 10 in the 4th at red hot Battle and Union gets a gutsy 42-39 win over JSB. Union girls won 59-29. Quote
pdfan Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Martinsville played very good on the defensive end of the court and didn't give up to many easy baskets. On offense, the Dogs play alot of 5 out and try to exploit mismatches and it worked really well tonight. That was Floyd's first loss of the year and the Bulldogs are now 9-3 with their losses to 4A GW-Danville, 5A defending state Champs Green Run and 6A defending state champs South Lakes. I’m sticking with Lebanon as top dog unless Graham beats them. Graham has a serious depth problem. They get in foul trouble early against a good team, it might get ugly. I would also be concerned about matching up with a good team that has some size underneath. Gage Palmer usually has to guard the other team's big man and he does a pretty good job, despite being a bit shorter then the opposing team's big men. Fix can jump through the roof, but Graham is just lacking a reliable big man in the paint.... Gridiron60 1 Quote
Bball_Fan Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 I thought Central gave them a decent game at Central. Central is also lacking a big man that can make lay ups and hustle back on defense. He doesn’t put forth the effort that needs to be made during big games against physical teams. Real Sasquatch 1 Quote
Bcats Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Gate city falls on a buzzer beater 3 to Hampton TN 59-58. I keep wanting to add Gate City to the team to beat with Graham and Lebanon and it's just not there. Ollie Carpenter dad Ben Carpenter back when he played for Lebanon he was putting up 30 every night, he was lethal. I thought Ollie was going to have the same fire, so far it just haven't happened for him, he can score 35 one game and the next 5 games have 8pts or less before having another explosive 25pt outing. Graham’s got talent in the six Baker plays and can shoot as well or better than a lot of teams they play and Fix’s vertical leap is impressive but a big man in the paint would help and some depth. Obviously Reece is the difference maker for Lebanon in most games but I see him being almost unstoppable against Graham. Palmer is okay defensively but he’s not as good as Anderson and even he had no chance of stopping Reece Quote

Not sure they can stop Reece , if they still had Blake Graham on defense, it might change things. Graham may pull upset nothing is a given but we’ll see. Honestly, if Graham can’t make it to Richmond again, Lebanon is my second choice although Floyd Co. will be tough. Quote

Carpenter doesn’t really have a lot of ties still to Lebanon so I don’t see him just coming to watch Reece break his record. Bcats 1 Quote

There’s 6 teams in 2D that I wouldn’t be shocked if they made the state tournament, along with Abingdon and PH who could also beat any of those teams on any night as well Gridiron60 1 Quote

Outside of Noah Farley Floyd County doesn't have much to offer, my opinion i will favor Graham and Lebanon over Floyd County. Floyd does have #40 put i think he's mainly a d1 prospect for baseball, his brother a couple years back I think went d1 for football but I can't remember their last name Gridiron60 1 Quote

Farley is talented for sure. Bcats 1 Quote

pdfan Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 The biggest addition Martinsville made this season was the new coach they hired. VHSL hall of famer who coached Grant Hill and Scottie Reynolds in high school. Has them very connected and playing with alot of poise and discipline. Farley scored I think 18 Friday night but had to work for all of them. Dogs are 8-9 deep right now but have been missing their starting pg since late Dec. Suppose to be back before the end of the regular season. Region C is going to be tough also with Floyd, Nelson Co, Gretna and a few more in the mix. Real Sasquatch 1 Quote

Noah Farley is a good player, he's going to get his, but like you said you have to make him work hard for his. Nothing wrong with him scoring 25 you just want him to take 30 shots to get it. Farley is by far their best player but #40 the baseball commit i think is Floyd most important player he down low trying to bully you and crashing getting a lot of offensive rebounds giving Floyd 2nd shot opportunities Quote
pdfan Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 The Dogs made it difficult for him, the center, Friday. He got some points inside but Martinsville's length made it hard on him. Blocked several shots, forced some turnovers and made post entry passes tough due to ball pressure on the guards. Floyd has a good team but in my opinion they got a little frustrated with the Dogs defense and the score kind of snowballed on them in the 2nd half. Bcats 1 Quote
Fairlawncat Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 It's going to be Martinsville and Nelson County in the Class 2, Region C title game. Dan River, Radford, and Floyd are all decent, but they aren't on the level of Martinsville and Nelson County. Dan River could maybe make it close with Martinsville if the two met in the region just because of the historic rivalry, but I dont think they are beating the Dogs in the playoffs. Bcats 1 Quote
