Pretending to be a coach of a program to trick high school kids into believing they’ve been offered is pretty low. Many teams jump on board by seeing which other teams have already jumped on board. If I'm the kid, his father, and his coach, I would have kept the prank hush hush. They constantly updated his X (Twitter) page with his size, weight room PR’s, camp visits & accolades.
