But if they were to drop the two smallest class 2 schools down to account for Buch County consolidation, then Grayson would only have one more student than the biggest class 1 schools, so they would fall within the 1% buffer That could make it easier for a handful of schools that are between classes to argue their case. I know that Grayson ruffles a lot of feathers, but they are pretty isolated on that mountain. Never been there and from what I hear, I have no interest in getting car sick going there. wdr31 and ehcwasp 2 Quote

Started hearing in June that GC would be back in Class 2, and that they would not appeal....def didn't believe that ha. Supposedly the three smallest class 2 schools have a difference of one student, so GC is gonna at least have an appeal if they push some schools down to replace Buch County schools. Won't be shocked if it shakes out that way, but just rumors for now Quote

Bluebird Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 I saw this on a different site so some people know what’s going on. All-Conference 33 minutes ago #5 Just seen where GW will be going down to C3. Wow! Quote

The last times I was in Danville was about 12 years ago, and it was a veritable ghost town compared to what it had been. I can't imagine it's gotten much better. Quote
Sixcat Adjacent Posted July 29 Report Posted July 29 GW Danville's best athletes have been going down highway 29 to Reidsville for the past 15 years. Danville has also lost approximately 25% of its population since 1990. Hokiebird7 1 Quote
Dodgers Posted July 30 Report Posted July 30 Lebanon should and probably will be placed back in the Hogoheegee District since that is where they have always played in the past in Class 1 where they developed some interesting rivalries. Also the VHSL looks at student safety and travel to Hogoheegee schools is much closer overall than travel to Cumberland District schools. Lebanon traveling to Cumberland District member Thomas Walker could be right at a two hour trip each way on a school night and that is not what the VHSL wants. Another thing pointing Lebanon to the Hogoheegee District is they already play Rural Retreat, Patrick Henry, and Honaker in football which is half of the district schools. tornado99 and VHSLhelper 1 1 Quote

Sixcat Adjacent Posted July 31 Report Posted July 31 17 minutes ago, Dodgers said: If the VHSL doesn’t decide where they go then who does? The VHSL Alignment Committee groups schools into regular-season districts using these primary rules: Geographic Proximity: Schools are grouped with neighboring schools to minimize student travel time and reduce transportation costs. Community & Rivalry: The league prioritizes keeping traditional, local rivalries alive and groupings within the same school divisions/counties where logical. Committee Drafts: The Alignment Committee drafts a statewide plan. Executive Committee Approval: The 37-member Executive Committee (composed of principals, athletic directors, and superintendents) must vote to approve the layout. School Appeals: If a school feels their assignment creates an unfair competitive disadvantage or an extreme travel burden, they can formally appeal to the VHSL to shift districts or regions. Southern Gap had to apply to the SWD, which then had a vote on whether or not to accept us. Council was voted down by both the Cumberland AND the Hogo, so they would've been the ONLY team in the BDD. Why would the VHSL split the 10-team, all-Loudoun Dulles District in half, yet keep an 11-team Beach Dist. AND a 12-team Northwestern District? The schools wanted it that way. Quote
1inStripes Posted July 31 Report Posted July 31 There are times though when the VHSL will step in. Pretty sure although Council was voted down by both, they were going to be placed in the Cumberland. Lebanon is about to be an interesting one though. Union_Fan, ehcwasp and Dodgers 3 Quote

The only possible cog that I see that could divert Lebanon away from the hogo and into the Cumberland, other than chilhowie, will be if they see that Marion will likely be dropping down soon Dodgers and ehcwasp 2 Quote

Don't see either district approving Lebanon, so a Marion appeal to drop and be placed in the Hogo would def muddy the waters. The committee would possibly overlook the member school votes from both districts. Could possibly leave both in their current district and use points for postseason. Not ideal, but could happen. 1inStripes 1 Quote

Their enrollment has steadily declined since consolidation. Quote
