I was just told that LCA petitioned to stay 3A last go round and it was approved. Let's hope this continues again.

I’m probably confusing the information and admittedly haven’t researched it, but wasn’t there some rule or provision that had private schools playing in classes up 1 or 2 levels because of the unique ability to recruit, like LCA? Maybe, I’m thinking WV.

I never understood the reason behind using grades 9-11.

Seniors rarely attend school anymore. With the rise in dual enrollment, they’ve completed the high school requirements by the second semester of the senior year at the latest. They take government and senior English first semester, then college level classes through a local community college second semester.

By the time ADM is calculated in March, the senior class could be half to a quarter of what it should be. My youngest had 40 kids in dual enrollment with a graduating class of 84. None of those 40 kids attended school after Christmas break.

I'd just like to get here and be the first to say it: absolutely no one in Marion thinks Marion should be in 1A. Hogo for district play, maybe, but not postseason. This is entirely an economic move by the school board. The county just proposed a localized sales tax increase to fund "school renovation and construction." This is 100% penny pinching as they look toward building a consolidated high school.

I would disagree with you on this one. Billy straight up said the HOGO was way easier than the SWD in his mountain mojo interview. There are people in the building that 100% want to be 1A and honestly the only teams that would massively benefit in soccer and tennis. Nothing would change for any of the other sports. Volleyball would dominate but they do that in 2A baseball softball and basketball would probably still be middle of the pack and football could snap this awful streak they are on

It's just too bad that leadership in SWVA did not think through all these consolidation 2 or 3 decades ago. All counties west of I-77 are facing the same budget issues. They should have been combining resources. Now residents of counties like Buchanan and Dickenson are going to be on the hook to maintain huge facilities for a minimum of 40-50 years.

First, 12th was removed b/c they've ALREADY graduated by the time the numbers are put together, and really never should've been included at any time in the past.
11th will have graduated by this time next year, but they want numbers for more than a just couple of years.
8th SHOULD be included, but a bunch of metro schools bucked against it a few years ago b/c their middles feed more than 1 HS, and they can't break the numbers up for the state DoE.
So we're stuck with 9-11.

10-1-4 Attendance Zone Multipliers

But the VHSL doesn't say what their ACTUAL ADM is OR which multiplier they use.
LCA's Facebook posts from May only spotlights about 50 Seniors.

But their 151 # for 9th graders makes me think they aren't being multiplied.

10-1-4 (a) The VHSL shall not apply a multiplier to a non-public member school whose attendance zone is limited to the same public school zone in which the non-public school is located.

better than keeping up 4 buildings that are 50+ years old.

Wise County review:

Closed the newest school St. Paul and stupidly ASS-U-MED that SP kids would drive all the way to Coeburn, when Castlewood was 2 miles away. Threw green paint on a worn-out Coeburn High School and attempted to pass it off as a "new" school. Spent around 2 million on a plan to stick PV and Appy students in trailers waiting on the new school being built, finally built 2 schools in Union and Central that were cheaply done and both had cracks in structure 2 yrs after opening. Then again this from the county that had a supervisor throw a fit when Taco Bell was approved saying and I quote "We don't need another phone company in Wise County!". I can go on if ya like. Hold my beer!

I think there have been very few kids inside Wise County cross the line into Russell County in the last 15 years.  Id say Wise County won that percentage comparison of Russell County kids going to Eastside vs Wise County kids at Castlewood. It was so strong at one time Wise County was running a bus all the way to Copper Creek Elementary.

I know when my son was dating a girl from SP her and several others went to Castlewood.

I worked in Wise Co schools during consolidation and I can tell you with absolute certainty that only 40 students came to Eastside from St Paul in 2011.

Somewhere between 55-60% of St Paul students(HS & ES) were not Wise Co residents. They never expected all those students to come. They just put it on paper so that Eastside would look like it would be within 100 students of Central and Union. St Paul elementary has been left open because it is a break even school. Close it and you save the exact amount of money you lose from state funding.

Central and Union each were allocated 25 million to build. The other 10 million, 8 for Eastside's renovation and 2 for Appy elementary, were nothing more than a bribe for a 5th vote.

Wise had 2 and BSG had 2. They just needed 1 more supervisor to approve the loan. Appy elementary was never going to stay open, but JW Adams is still open. Wonder why? Same reason a BOS member's spouse was promoted to the SBO. Just needed that 1 more vote. 2 million is a small price to pay for 2 brand new HSs for the largest communities.

Oh I believe every word he says....I believe they are all lies

And it's not just him, it's been Grayson's MO since the early 90's.  When Radford dropped down and Glenvar left the Pioneer, and the Three Rivers was born, the D2 schools were supposed to be Three Rivers (Giles, Radford, Floyd, Glenvar, Grayson, Fort) and the D1 schools would remain MED (Narrows, Bland, Rocky Gap, Auburn, Shawsville, Galax.)  Grayson threw a fit screaming travel.  They've always wanted to be the biggest fish in the smallest pond possible.  Nothing new here.

In college I dated a girl from Castlewood, she went to St Paul while her sister went to Castlewood... or maybe it was the other way around 🤔

They lived down Mew Road, theoretically a 3rd sibling could have went to Twin Springs. SWVAs failure to look at a regional school system 30 years ago is so short sighted, its nothing short of incompetence by our leadership
