pvfan Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 I only know M7. Can others post Class 1 and Class 2 girls and boys? M7 Girls Central will win barring being upset by RV - Union, Abingdon, RV should be 2-4 in that order with GC at 5. M7 Boys Abingdon and Union have two loses each and are tied going into final week. They play Thursday at Abingdon. Prior to that, Abingdon plays GC with Union playing RV and Lee. Central and GC are tied for 3rd and only a game back. They play each other this week. The loser of this is basically out. NOTE - if Abingdon beats Union then the GC/Central winner would have a chance of tying Union for the top spot in Class 2 and hosting 2D Tournament. Assuming Union beats Lee and RV, the Bears can still get top class 2 seed with a loss to Abingdon if GC beats Central and Abingdon beats GC. If memory serves, neither Union or Abingdon has won the M7 in boys since the two shared the title during the COVID season when both teams played for a state title. Quote

I believe Abingdon won the district again in 2022 which would have been Evan Ramsey's senior year. Quote
1inStripes Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 I can't say this is completely accurate and won't do records due to all the weather moves. Cumberland Boys 1 Eastside 2 Twin Springs 3 Rye Cove 4 JI Burton 5 Thomas Walker 6 Castlewood Cumberland Girls 1 Twin Springs 2 Eastside 3 Rye Cove 4 Castlewood 5 Thomas Walker 6 JI Burton I think Eastside TS and RC all have to play each other again. Eastside at RC Tuesday and RC goes to TS on Friday. Gonna be a hectic week for everyone though. Quote

BigWinners Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Gap between the SWD in M7 in boys is still minuscule compared to the gap in girls. Wow. 7-8 tied for second in SWD would be near bottom in M7 Quote

Boys probably close to even as far as top teams from M7 & SWD. Quote

1inStripes Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Battle may be the only team a SWD team can beat in girls action in the M7. Quote

Wouldn’t shock me to see both Graham and Leb advance on boys side but it would shock me if the SWD girls won more than one game in tourney if that. Quote
swvavol Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 On the girls side, Lebanon might be able to beat Gate City, but that's it. Marion, VA High, or Graham won't come close to beating Central, Union, or Ridgeview Real Sasquatch and Gridiron60 2 Quote

1inStripes Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Eastside sweeps TS last night. This puts TS and Eastside in a tie for first currently in the girls standings. RC would need to sweep both this week to present a 3 way tie, or if they can beat 1 of the 2, it will move them out of a playoff game scenario barring a bigger upset. Quote

You can't clap in the face of an opponent and you can't throw the ball at an official out of anger. I'm not sure what Slagle said but he was very animated and must have said the magic word to get the third one; he was very lucky to not be tossed after the temper tantrum. Speaking of the USN announcers, I won't call them out by name, but I'll give the head guy some credit. His partner, who has a very biased opinion, was very unprofessional. Many times during the game you could hear him (after taking off his headset) criticizing the officials. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree..... Backpack 1 Quote

Person who dislikes Union believes all three were warranted? Color me shocked lol. I wasn’t there so I can’t say either way. Union girls and Slagle hadn’t received a T all year and receive three in a game is pretty wild. Unchained 1 Quote

That isnt accurate. Union girls had received at least 1 tech earlier in the season. Not saying at all its a common thing for them but it has happened. Quote

I wasn’t there so I can’t say either way. Union girls and Slagle hadn’t received a T all year and receive three in a game is pretty wild. That wasn't the first technical for Union this season. As far as last night goes, the first one was because a player clapped in the face of a girl from Ridgeview who got called for an offensive foul. If the Union player would have kept walking away and clapped, then nothing would have happened. But she decided to turn towards the Ridgeview player and clap in her face. I'm sorry, but that was warranted. The second one was when Union got called for a questionable offensive foul. The player crossed the lane and did a jump stop, and when she did, her elbow flew up and caught the Ridgeview player in the upper chest/neck area. The ref called a charge, so she slammed the ball on the floor and said something, so they T'd her up. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten one before last night. Then then third one came after Union hit a three and then got a steal on the inbound pass, but Slagle decided to keep mouthing off to the ref, so he got a technical too. Quote

pvfan Posted February 10 Author Report Posted February 10 No member of Union’s girls team or coaching staff had received a technical prior to last night’s contest. Like anything in basketball, it’s open for interpretation if last night’s were warranted. That crew obviously didn’t let much go in the girls game. Quote

An individual received one at GC and before halftime was no longer with the team. If you’d like to argue semantics, feel free to proceed. Quote
