RichRich Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 Will Grundy Go out on top one last time???? Will be exciting to See Quote
VHSLhelper Posted February 16 Author Report Posted February 16 At least we won't see a repeat of 2000, when the team title came down to who won the last match... Big Al beat E.G. McDaniel of C'burg. Quote

Gridiron60 Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 That’s a little shocking that Rural Retreat beat Grundy. VHSLhelper 1 Quote

Rural retreat is a top notch program., If Grundy wasn't in their division they would have a quite a few team titles. I think Grundy wasn't able to fill out a few weight classes this yr so that didn't help them out any. Gridiron60 1 Quote
Bluebird Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 I know it’s early but how do you think southern gap will do next year in wrestling? I see that Hurley council and twin valley really don’t have wrestling programs. Quote
VHSLhelper Posted February 17 Author Report Posted February 17 Like football, we lost a lot to graduation. This year, we'll lose the three big boys... Talon, Brody & Quake, plus a couple in the middle. Have no idea about what's in the wings. Quote

But they are also in danger of losing kids to other schools with programs already in place. Richlands has a pretty good program maybe even Lebanon not sure of the distance. Does honaker Still have wrestling? Also seen East ridge high school in Ky is starting a wrestling program and trying to get some kids to come their way with that and other sports they offer. Like archery and maybe even skeet shooting Quote

Like archery and maybe even skeet shooting Those kids who want to wrestle aren’t going to leave Travis Fiser for Richlands or Honaker or Lebanon. Honaker had 4 kids this year on their team this year and Lebanon had 5. Richlands does a good job with PR and have some good kids but they aren’t going to get kids who want to wrestle from Southern Gap. I’m not saying they won’t lose kids but it won’t be wrestlers. Between last year and this they will graduate a lot but they still have Clevinger and Stiltner who will likely be returning state champions, Smeltzer, Vance, Whited, Scarberry all have a good chance to place well this year as well and Henry Brown the back up 215 would probably be top 3 in the state but for Brody. Shieam Gordon’s little brother will be coming up and that kid is very good as well. They probably won’t win 2A as a team but I still feel they’ll have numerous kids right there in the state title hunt. 1inStripes and VHSLhelper 2 Quote
1inStripes Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 Kids come from a lot further away to wrestle for Grundy and will Southern Gap than neighboring counties. No way they love for other programs just due to a name change. Quote
RichRich Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 It's the kids that aren't wrestling yet that they may lose. The kids you need to join when you combine schools. They may go to another school for any other reason and pick up wrestling as a new sport there. So that would be wrestlers the school lost. How many female wrestlers does grundy have? Quote

1inStripes Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 I would guess any kid already in Buchanon County that wanted to wrestle, was already at Grundy to wrestle is my point. It would possibly impact the longer term prospects more than the short term. That being said with that bunch coming up out of Hurley who will remain at Southern Gap to play for Tester, Grundy wrestling will probably be just fine for some additions out of northern Buch. Bluebird Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 It’s not good when you have regions like A and B that don’t have the wrestling teams that they could have. Quote

I think they gonna be OK. I didn't know tester was gonna be Football coach. Quote
