Dogs played hard, just couldn't get shots to go down tonite, and Floyd had alot to do with that. Rest tomorrow and get ready for the 1st round of regionals against Gretna in the Dawghouse. Other first round games are Dan River@Nelson Co. Glenvar@Liberty-Bedford and Radford@Floyd Co. Fairlawncat Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Surprising loss to me. Not as dramatic as Richlands beating Graham in my opinion, but a surprise. Not easy playing at Floyd. I still think Nelson County is the front dog in the West, but Martinsville, Dan River (who Nelson beat twice), Gretna, maybe Floyd, Gate City, Union, and Graham and maybe Lebanon could clip Nelson for one game, but Nelson is the front dog I think Real Sasquatch 1 Quote

I think Radford-Floyd will be interesting, split during the regular season, both winning by 1 point on their home court. The Dogs have a very difficult game with Gretna tomorrow. Liberty would definitely be a darkhorse candidate to go deep in the postseason -- and still has the firepower to be competitive -- but there is one very extraordinary qualifying factor. Head Coach John McSweeney (who oversaw a complete rebuild of the Minutemen program) died unexpectedly on January 30th. In addition to the major emotional toll and effect on the kids, they will likely be at a tactical disadvantage the farther they go against good teams when they would otherwise have had John's experience to guide them. I had the opportunity to know him through my connection to the program and the community. Really great guy who really loved coaching basketball. In fact he gave up a very successful career in financial management to be a high school coach first in Tulsa and then in Bedford. Fairlawncat 1 Quote
