I’m going to be 100% honest. I don’t see union being within 15 points of Graham. If fix plays how he did the last two games against Lebanon it will be way more than that. If he’s having an off night, which is very possible it could be closer.
And if Hayes and Horne played half as well as they did last night central will be playing Graham in the title game, good defense or not, there’s not much else Lebanon could have done to stop them

Doesn't Graham still have to play GC? Im sure Graham is favored, but I'm not sold that's as automatic as you guys are making it sound.

Never seen any like that in all my time for this coverage area. Never. Over 60 points for a full game? Sure. That happens. 61 in a half, or slightly under one full half? Somebody needs to check the Virginia record books. Thats approaching "up there" status for a half.

Go watch the game. It’s almost hysterical how easy Cade was playing

They do yes. GC just has one guy that Graham can’t matchup with in Jenkins. But Graham has three that GC can’t matchup with

But they still had guys that can play. PH does not, the two they played in place of them would barely start on JV

Big difference in can play and being in tune basketball wise. Common knowledge when you have a deep playoff football run, you are going to struggle for a month because you haven't been in the gym practicing.

Also wasn’t Horton or Wharton or something like that already back for the wise tourney. And Union also seems to be struggling now more than at the beginning with Bostic going cold.

Yes, Graham has to get by Gate City. Fun fact, 8 years ago in 2018 Graham beat Gate City for regional championship with a very talented Darren Martin. Ty Martin is his younger brother and only a sophomore. Darren was talented but I think Ty will eclipse his brother’s talent level when it’s all said and done.

Wharton just got back a couple weeks ago (broken fibula). Bostic still doesn't look fully healthy but looks to have more energy. His 3s are on target-just not falling. That broken nose for Bostic sure comes at a clutch time. He's a tough kid though.

That’s Mac’s senior year right?

Part of me wishes that selfe wasn’t a class act coach. Wish we could have seen how many he’d have had by a full four quarters

Yeah last night.

Maybe the knock to the nose will start to knock some of the threes in. After Anderson broke Jessee’s nose he seemed to start playing better especially offensively, must be the power of the mask

Could have had 100, on pace

Tough end for a school that had so many great basketball teams:( Certainly not the way Council and TV who got thumped tonight wanted to go out. Man, those Cobras teams with Nukols,Rasnake and co were NASTY.

Easily. Could have had 70 in the first half. Running clock definitely would have slowed the pace down but even if that slowed him down half as much he could have got well over 100

A question I’ve always had about that team is did they ever win a title? I know they won at least one in early 2000s but what about that group

They won 1  2000-2001

Historical Context

  • 2000–2001 Season: The Cobras captured the Class 1 State Championship, marking one of the program’s most celebrated achievements. At the time, Class 1 was the top classification in Virginia high school basketball, and the win was a major accomplishment for a small school in the Black Diamond District Wikipedia.

  • Legacy: The team’s success in the late 1990s and early 2000s was legendary in the region, with memorable upsets such as defeating Mt. Zion and giving Oak Hill a scare at the Virginia High School Tournament www.swvasports.com. In today’s classification system, they would have been in multiple state title contention during that span www.swvasports.com.

Yes, Mac was on that squad. Unfortunately, Gate City got them when they played again in state semis that year.

Yep I could definitely see Ty ending up better than his brother. Hoping that both of Lebanons freshman progress the way he has from freshman year to sophomore year.

Darren improved quite a bit during his junior and senior seasons.  Ty has already contributed as a freshman and sophomore.  Still got a little ways to go to catch up with Big brother.  If he becomes close to or equal to Darren, he will be a tremendous assett.

You’re right Darren did improve a lot his junior/senior seasons. He was a super fun player to watch. Although maybe a year or two older than Darren, Scotty Ball from Richlands was another fun one to watch.

According to VHSL only 12 players have scored 63 or more points in a game and it has only happened once in the past 40 years.

Jeb Stewart also had 20 assists tonight, good for 2nd most all time in a game

Im guessing most were on steals delivered down floor to Caywood in the first half.  One report was Caywood only crossed half court 2-3 times.

I agree.  Jenkins is a matchup nightmare and the best player on the team.  However, Reed and Carpenter have the ability to make a big impact if they are playing well.  Reed can see the court well and has the ability to feed the ball with ease.  I have watched GC play a few games this year and they can be hot/cold.  From what I hear, Graham is solid.  Could be interesting depending on what GC team shows up to play.

I'd recommend going back and watching the game on NFHS. The kid never went back to play any defense. He just hung around half court waiting to get a fast break opportunity and pad his stats. I'm not sure that should be considered classy.
