Gridiron60 Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 We have teams competing in Class A, AA, & AAA (Abingdon Girls). Share thoughts on any matchups or predictions you have. What are the chances Central & Graham meet again in semis? Galax beat GW girls. Can Honaker? Will Union & Ridgeview girls meet again? Can Trivette lead Lady Falcons to final four? Will Owen Jackson help propel Fort Chiswell to Richmond? Any SWVA teams have a good chance at going to Richmond? Quote
Fairlawncat Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 All 4 teams in the Class 2 Boys West are very close and any of the 4 is no surprise to play for a state title. No surprise if Central and Graham play again. I still believe Nelson and Floyd are slight favorites over D. Real Sasquatch 1 Quote
Gridiron60 Posted March 1 Author Report Posted March 1 I read Chatham is undefeated 26-0 and they beat Liberty by 20 in region championship. I believe Union will have an easier time of it than Ridgeview. Of course, no clue the caliber of the opponents Chatham has defeated. Being undefeated is pretty impressive though. Fairlawncat 1 Quote

I saw Honaker girls are hosting GW at home and Galax hosting Grundy girls at home but Twin Springs is playing Fort Chiswell at Pulaski County. cityofRaven 1 Quote

Unions gym was built to make sure they had the required seating for hosting, they chose UVAW but could have played at Union so I believe as long as it seats the required amount it’s good to go until the neutral site games. Travel time could be factored in at the West semi and final level, it may have to be at a diff site if the travel is arduous. Quote

Easier for teams to contain Witt on a smaller court. Quote

Seems to be the case. I believe he was given the choice and chose Wise. They’ve just played there and shot well plus it creates more floor space so while rhe crowd won’t be as good, the team should be comfortable. Quote

Bcats Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 Good luck to Graham, Wise, Abingdon, Ridgeview and Union go represent SWVA. To any on here that are traveling (safe travels) and I seen where Nelson County has to make around 4 and half hour trip, there's no way they should make them kids go to school tomorrow Comegetsum, Gridiron60 and Bball_Fan 3 Quote

As an adult after that length drive, I’d just want to crash. Kids are built different though & they’re probably riding charter playing on their phones chilling but still that’s a haul. Bcats 1 Quote

Gridiron60 Posted March 3 Author Report Posted March 3 Post from Greg Mullins: Hello Wise County family and friends! For those of you who don't know, I am the Athletic Director at Nelson County High School. Our boys basketball team has advanced to the state tournament this year and will be playing at Central High School on Tuesday. Any of my Wise County friends who don't have an obvious allegiance to Central, we are looking to recruit some Nelson County fans on Tuesday! We might even have some green and gold poms for you to shake! Seriously, it would be great to see a lot of Wise County family and friends (especially Pound and Coeburn folks) and you could see a great High school basketball game too! GO GOVS! If Union girls weren’t playing tonight too, he might could have turned out a crowd of Bears’ fans for Nelson County 😂. Pretty cool their AD is from Wise County though. Bcats and Fairlawncat 1 1 Quote

I think Wise Central is going to be in a mess down in Wise County. Could be wrong though. Very surprising to me if Central beat them. Quote

You know for the kids playing and for the students if they take a spirit bus they're hype for the long trip, like you said for the parents and the adults fans traveling man that's a rough trip, you're basically looking at around 9hrs for an hour and a half game, if Nelson were to lose that makes it longer Quote
