It’s basically who was the best player on the team that won the regular season 7 times out of 10. I’m sure the Witt girl had a solid regular season but they finished third in regular season standings. Doubt anyone would have expected her to average 35+ in the postseason. Same thing probably happened on the boys side, I’m sure Bostic probably got it because the Bears somehow won the regular season despite having poor averages Witt in the regular season hung 44 on Central and 38 on RV twice:) Quote

Unfortunately, it’s not always a fair process. We could probably give several examples from this past football season as well where a few accolades were questionable. At this point it is what it is-go get that championship ladies! Quote
Fairlawncat Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 Got to give it to who deserves it most, not the automatic highest D1 prospect. That discussion came up with the elite WR from Nitro and who was better, him or Mosser from Princeton. No question the kid from Nitro has the higher D1 ceiling and prowess, but got to look at what each player did this year and for their team and competition. Seems like the M7 got it right with Whitt, even though Trivette is the higher D1 recruit. Quote

I would also assume that the dales girl is a senior and iirc Witt is just a junior. Not saying that Witt isn’t deserving. Just that it follows the trend of a solid senior on the regular season winning team getting the poty over players that are better but on teams that didn’t win. And didn’t abingdon finish 4th regular season? Unchained 1 Quote

In my search for finding their post about it I also seen that they made a post asking for donations to help with expenses on traveling to state? Never heard of that before. Is that how yall do it in football? I’d understand it then because of the large amount of players coaches and cheerleaders, but to ask for help paying for what maybe 15 rooms? Quote

I honestly don’t know who pays for the rooms/meals etc. for boys’ basketball. I haven’t seen anything asking for donations though. They’re going down tomorrow though not today like Union. Send off at the high school at 8:30am. As far as football, we travel day of to state championship on charter bus. Boosters normally take care of meals I think. I’m not sure who funds the charter, possibly school or school board, maybe a business. Edited March 11 by Gridiron60 Correct information about departure day, it’s Thursday morning instead of Wednesday. Quote

I know on the baseball side of things, for Lebanon at least, the school pays for rooms and when they go out and eat it’s typically a business that donates for their meals Quote

I have seen so many times that these trips are turned into more of a vacation than a trip for a game. They want to go out and eat at the best places and stay in the nicest places. I'm all for making it a memorable experience for the kids, but at the end of the day they're going to hopefully win a ballgame. Celebrate after you win it...... Comegetsum and Gridiron60 2 Quote

I think another football team in SWD can attest to that-lost a championship they should have won in my opinion but got distracted by everything else on the trip and caught up with them on the field.
