Gridiron60 Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 Hoping Galax , Fort Chiswell, Union, Abingdon & Graham will all be hoisting the championship trophy in Richmond. No team gets to Richmond by accident! Your opponents will come to play; they want that trophy too! Go play harder , play smarter, & with more heart! Comegetsum and gwloyal 2 Quote

Fairlawncat Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 I root for swva teams but Im also following Wyoming East. I like them kids from the WV coalfields. Rich basketball history in Wyoming County from Herbie Brooks to the D'Antoni Brothers. I would like to see them win it. Tough economic times there. I will check on James Monroe and Bluefield, but can't help rooting for Wyoming East. Unchained and Real Sasquatch 2 Quote

Between Wyoming East, Westside, James Monroe, and Bluefield, any of those 4 could win a state title but only 2 will go. Fairlawncat 1 Quote

BigWinners Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 A Region D sweep in 2A would be awesome. Union has a tall task ahead, Clarke County seems to be a buzzsaw. Graham is playing very well too but they’ll need to connect on some shots from range. Martin is so smooth, he can slither in the paint so effortlessly. Hope the Falcons can bring it home too, Trivitte is so good and they have a good cast around her now. A title would validate her decision even more so IMO. Granted, I don’t know much about Luray but Owen Jackson is so crazy good. Fort Chiswell had 15 3 pointers the other night against Patrick Henry. It should be a heck of a game. Quote

Fairlawncat Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 I think every school in SWVA can win. I also think every school in SWVA can lose. I think the toughest challenge would be Lurays girls. They will be difficult to beat, but beatable. Fort Chiswell, Abingdon, Union, Graham all toss ups. I think Lurays girls are a slight favorite. Also in the coverage area, James Monroe in West Va has a shot. Would be an underdog to win the whole thing, but not impossible. Quote
Real Sasquatch Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 It doesn't appear that Central - Woodstock will have a height advantage on Graham. They may have a two or three inch advantage underneath, but not much. Graham appears to be the more aggressive of the two teams. Woodstock has some guys that can shoot it and a couple that can penetrate and make the basket. These two teams should match up well. Should be another great game. Quote

If all things being pretty equal on the court , it may come down to which team can rise to the occasion. Central Woodstock hasn’t been to state basketball championship since 1980 I believe. Will the moment be too big? The GMen went last year although they didn’t win, they stood toe to toe with John Marshall and were not intimidated especially that 2nd half of play by a team loaded with D1 athletes. I like Graham’s chances and hope Coach Baker & his bunch bring the 2A boys’ title back to Bluefield & SWVA. Real Sasquatch, Bcats and Comegetsum 3 Quote

TJ did not pressure Central - Woodstock the way that Graham pressured Central - Wise in their matchup. Graham's defense was on point in that game. I am very impressed that Central - Wise was able to come back and make a game of it. Most teams would have folded under the tremendous pressure. Hopefully Graham will be able to put up a similar defense effort in the finals. They have got to stay out of foul trouble early. Comegetsum and Gridiron60 2 Quote

I’d like to find a game where Central Woodstock was pressed and see how they handled it. Some teams fold or can’t find a way to break it. I thought Central Wise did a good job staying in the game too. They’ve been pretty battled tested though. I wonder how battle tested Woodstock is. A team doesn’t end up in Richmond by just getting lucky but some are more battle tested than others. Edit: Looking at their record, Luray beat them twice , once by 4, the most recent meeting by 11. They split with Strasburg in regular season , the 2nd meeting Strasburg won easily (could be Woodstock was missing a key player, don’t know) , in regions Woodstock beat Strasburg in a close one. Greenville County didn’t give them much of a game in the state quarterfinals. I watched a few minutes of it the games above not entire game. Strasburg, Luray, or Greenville didn’t press in what I watched. If they haven’t really faced a defense like Graham can execute, they may have a tough time adjusting. Bcats Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 Central Woodstock might end up making me eat my words, I watched them against Thomas Jefferson, I'll use the M7 conference because besides Graham and Lebanon the M7 top to bottom was better than the SWD this season. I honestly think Central Woodstock would be batting John Battle for the 5th seed. Graham will have no problem, the championship game was played this past Friday It seems like the Union game is going to come down to a 1 on 1 showdown with Witt Vs Alainah McKavish, she leads the team in points, assists, blocks and steals and her sister Paige McKavish leads the team in rebounds Real Sasquatch, Comegetsum and Gridiron60 3 Quote

She's really developing offensively. I really like the duo with Witt. Bcats 1 Quote

There are still a lot of times where Witt tries to take the 1 on 3 shot instead of passing, but when she actually passes the ball, Renfrow has done her job Quote

The Greenville County game was some very mediocre basketball. It was painful to watch. I hope you’re right & Graham wins. Hopefully, refs let them play and not call every little ticky tack thing. As far as girls, you’re spot on, those two sisters are key for Clarke County. If Union can neutralize their impact, Union comes home with win. I’m giving heart & determination edge to Whitt. After watching Union in districts, regions, & state thus far, I’m not counting them or her out at all. Bcats and Unchained 2 Quote
Stelley Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Is there any reason that basketballs state tournament takes almost 2 weeks to be completed? Baseball and softball usually start on a Tuesday and are done on Saturday, weather willing of course. A bit unnecessary imo 1inStripes 1 Quote

The same here when I watched Woodstock against TJ it was hard to watch, i couldn't finish it, but I seen enough to know that lord willing come Friday Graham is going to have to make some extra room in their trophy case. You know I'm rolling with Union too, Union does have their hands full but so does Clarke County trying to stop Witt and the crew. It looks like Abingdon caught a break with spotswood getting upset Quote
